The Voice of the White House
http://tbrnews.org/Archives/a1354.htm

February 1, 2005: “Two items of interest for you concern the legal attacks on Rumsfeld in Germany and the actual number of dead military in the Iraq campaign. First off, the President is livid with rage over the German court charges against Rummy and his band of trained assassins. An American group has filed war crimes charges against them in the German courts and both the White House and the DoS have actually threatened the German government with “serious economic reprisals” if they do not have the suit dismissed. The Germans have responded, saying that this is not a German government action and they are legally unable to shut down lawsuits in their court system anymore than Bush could stop a civil suit against Halliburton for wholesale fraud and deception in Federal court....

And as far as the death toll is concerned, I have seen the figures from the DoD and your estimate of 7,000 dead is a little high but not much. These slick shits rule that a soldier who dies either while en route to a foreign hospital or at such a hospital is NOT COUNTED on the daily lists. Also, a number of GIs have been captured and this is not listed ....

Also, my friend from the next building showed me a long list compiled for the use of Karl Rove by Condoleeza Rice, our new Secretary of State, setting down the countries we wish to “democratize,” and the means by which we intend to accomplish this God-directed new Bush mission. The drill is to locate dissident groups, students, outlawed political party members and so on, inside the target country, finance them through the CIA’s so-called Internal Corruption Program and then have a “peaceful and democratic” change of government. This is what was done in the Ukraine and here are the following target countries plus the sums of money set aside to stir up internal rebellion:

Russia
$150,000,000

Iran
$150,000,000

Egypt
$25,000,000

Syria
$5,000,000

Venezuela
$20,000,000

Cuba
$40,000,000

North Korea
$20,000,000

Myanmar
$12,000,000

There are also studies in this report that cover countries considered potential targets but not yet elevated to the active level. These include: the PRC, Mexico, Canada, France, Malaysia and Brunei....

3. Can Things Get Any Worse - I Am Beyond Hope At This Point
Truly beyond hope.

Short of massive demonstrations or wholesale revolution, I don't know what we can do to stop this insanity.

4. Unique that Rumsfeld and Alberto won't go to Germany
for fear of being arrested as war criminals. Condi, with her lies, should be thrown in also.

Bush would love his empirical fascist/corporatist battles to continue. But he's got a problem. Americans don't want to go nor spend the $. He fooled us once, that's enough.

5. OMG! Isn't there anything we can do? We need a brave soul
with good media access to start getting the word out! I've read so much crap about these maniacs in the last day or so...I'm on overload! I've experienced such a wide range of emotions-now I just feel urgency and fear! I'm afraid of what they'll do next. Why won't anyone stop these bastards?

6. are these sums of money set aside in the Budget-so Congress knows
aboutthem in particular? There is a name for an organization that does this propaganda but I can not think of it at the moment. Anyone?
It is supported by Dems and Repuggs.

7. TBR always has...
... some very provocative pieces, almost every week. It's important to remember though, that it's not a news service, and the fellow running it has a very suspect history:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willis_Carto

Much of what appears in TBR is very likely fiction, or highly fictionalized. It's easy to want to believe this stuff (it's very enticing, I admit), but one must be as skeptical of this source as of any other with compromised credibility.

Cheers.

11. Don't you think it says a helluva lot, though,
that these charges are not readily dismissable? That we even have to consider the possibility that there does exist such a hit list astonishes me.

12. They only have weight...
... if they have some basis in fact. TBR is a notorious source, and there's no way to determine the factuality of the assertion.

It's plausible only because of prior presidents' similar lists, with Nixon's "enemies list" as an example. There's nothing in the story, though, to suggest any more than that. I would discount it on the basis of the amounts cited to disrupt those countries--in total, it's about 15-20% of the estimated CIA budget--far too high an amount.

Cheers.

This is a very knowledgeable and good person that has been here at DU a very long time. I actually had the privilege of meeting said DU'er, he came to my town on a political issue and followed up with lots of valuable info.

On edit:

I forgot to say hi, PunPirate. Let us know when you may pass through again, lots of good music and places to dine and would love to see you again and catch up.

15. You're actually too kind in describing this source. It's less credible
than Matt Drudge on PCP.

16. Thanks for the link about Carto's other enterprises.

I found that site (TBR) about six months ago and have been checking it out regularly because it verifies what I think the Bushies are up to (mostly , meaning the worst you can think about them is probably true..and that's the appeal of reading "Voice of the White House."

But, after a couple of months I did some more checking through the site and kind of picked up what the "link from Wikipedia" catalogs. That there was just a little odor coming from the books from "Barnes Review" mentioned on the site. Plus around Christmas "Voice" wrote a really irrational article that made him sound totally unhinged and vicious. Perhaps Pat Buchanan moonlights as "Voice."

Good caution there... the sites fun to read as long as one doesn't take it too seriously. Mostly it allows a vent for those of us who wonder what mad schemes "they" will think up next, but it's worrysome if some folks here start to take them seriously and maybe start to spend too much time there...

13. The issue of the actual death count
is an interesting one, but I can think of no easy way to check it out. (And I trust this source not at all.)

I did some searches last night, but found nothing of any use. I did find a couple of things at the following link, but these don't amount to much: Total active duty military deaths were not reported beyond 2002, although much more recent data is available; and the killed/wounded ratios for the two current campaigns looked a little odd -- but not to the degree that demands disbelieving them.
