Number of Foreign Graduate Students in U.S. Falls

The number of foreign students pursuing advanced degrees at U.S. universities fell this year, strengthening a trend that began after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, according to a report released on Wednesday.

"This survey confirms, as we have suspected for some time, that most of the nation's leading research universities are experiencing declines in international graduate enrollment," said Nils Hasselmo, president of the Association of American Universities.

"The major factors are U.S. visa policy, increased international competition and perceptions that the United States is no longer a welcoming country," he said.

Anyone with a brain, even a repuke, could have called this one 3 years ago!

There's more here than meets the eye. I'm at Seattle University now. My building is full of Asian and some SA students. Do any of you realize not only how much they are charged in tuition/fees and the luxury items they buy while in the USA? Not only do they have to start a 'home' with all items but they usually buy the best. Then every time they go home they buy tons of gifts. 80% of them buy a Benz, BMW, Volvo, Infiniti, or Lexus. (What does they same about American cars? These people are NOT prejudice in their purchasing decisions.) They're constantly shopping for Levis, Nike... These were the tops minds that helped keep American growing and on the cutting edge.

The Repukelican party, the American Fascist Christians spreading hatred to not only our own citizens and throughout the country but to other countries and peoples as well. The long term trend for America is self descruction under Repuklican leadership.

that with Dubya having a degree from Yale and Bill O'Reilly having a degree from Harvard, that foreigners would be falling over themselves to get some of that good Murkin' learnin'....

3. perhaps the thing that weighs the most in the decision of people from

other countries not to come here is their perception that "the United States is no longer a welcoming country," ... a perception which is turning out to be ... QUITE ON THE MARK!

4. Tuition going up at a college near you.

US can't afford this drop in college income.

5. That's for sure! I just want everyone to know that in fact they spend way

more into our economy that their 20K to 40K tuition!! The fancy car, cloths, food, gifts, apartment, booze, vacations, jewelry, make-up, hair cuts... I'm sure it's something a Repuke from a Red State doesn't have the education level to understand these facts.

Has there ever been a study of the amount of income foreign graduate students have generated in the USA over the last 30 years? In terms of their inventions, research, and start-up companines? Did you know that 1/3 of the Department of Energy researchers are Asian? I read that durning the Lee Wen Ho FBI frame-up. And that the Asian (non-American) scientists threatened to leave the USA if they, FBI/CIA, didn't stop making things up for political gain. The US Gov. backed down because they are doing the most vital research for America.
