Al Qaeda 'To Disintegrate' in 2 Years - UK Adviser
Al Qaeda will begin to disintegrate within two years as its various factions start to squabble and militants return to their local roots, a senior British parliamentary adviser predicted on Wednesday.

Professor Michael Clarke, a specialist adviser to lawmakers on the House of Commons defense committee, said the consequence would be that the security services would be able to win the "war on terror" as the group's structure fell apart.

"I think (cracks) are going to start to appear in the next 12 months to two years," he told Reuters at a security conference in London.

"It's going to start to fragment and split up," he said.

Clarke said he envisaged the network breaking down into smaller, disparate cells which would be more easily infiltrated and dealt with, bringing an end to the group's ability to carry out major attacks along the lines of the Sept. 11 attacks

2. wishful thinking you dumb fucking brit...
...this from the same advisors that said saddam had weapons of mass destruction? Or that saddam had ties to 9/11? Wish all you want. Al-Qaeda has been given the gift of life: the reselection of gee-dubya bush. Just as the christian fanatics in our own country are using the gay issue to recruit, divide and conqueor, so do the muslim fanatics with the great american satan and it's immoral war with Iraq. It's their number one draw. Every foolish and desperate act by bush* adds more fuel to the fire. The current destruction and razing of Falluja only brings more converts to the terrorist ranks. Dream on.

I don't know. I think there's a kernel of truth here. The international Jihadist movement is nowhere near as strong and powerful, in and of itself, as Bushco and the neocons make it out to be. But give them the nice recruiting tool that is neocon foreign policiy and.... Let's just say they could get their "Clash of Civilizations" after all (self fullfilling prophecy and all that). Osama needs the neocons as much as the neocons need Osama.

12. If the neocons were actually interested in defusing Al-Qaeda, they....
would work on giving the fanatics no ammunition, and I don't mean bullets and guns. Osama and Co. told the Arab world that all the United States and their ALLY (singular, and no, I did not forget about Poland) were interested in was the black gold beneath the sand and the location of Iraq. Osama said the Americans would bring death and destruction in the guise of liberation. Osama said the Americans would make the Iraqis wish for saddam. gee-dubya and the neocon traitors have taken a bad situation and made it infinetly worse. This type of religious blood feud bullshit last for CENTURIES. As far as the Arab world is concerned, the infidels have unleashed the crusades, round two.

14. Like I said...
Like I said, self fulfilling prophecy and all that. But the fundies ought to be happy because it means that they'll soon be sucked into the heavens by Jeezus.

7. Uh, yeah. Perhaps because they will be able to claim victory!!! I think
that as long as Shrub and Sharon are around, they will remain strong and committed. Heck, they'll probably even be rich! Wonder how much they "play" the markets?

10. Nice to see that the British
are following our lead in substituting wishful/magical thinking for real policy. Maybe they will follow us, out of the reality based community and into the faith based void.

My own prediction is that they will be united as long as they have a common enemy to focus on. At least as much as they need to be to inflict damage. But maybe if we close our eyes and wish hard enough, the fairies will come and dissolve them into dust.:eyes:

11. Wait until we are up against a nation or a group of nations in Eurasia who
successfully resist our imperialistic designs... they will be back on our payroll in a flash. Don't forget two of the hijackers were trained on MILITARY bases right here in the good ole U.S. of A. It's kinda nice how all of these unanswered questions just get swept under the collective carpet. If Clinton had been in office... the repugs would still be looking in his closets for evidence to tie him to it.

Vote this story down. How can Yahoo call this news?

"These vague soc 101 concepts indicate that I think it might possibly have a chance of maybe breaking down."

Goddamn, where can I get this guy's job?

16. Premise is wrong.
Al Qaeda is not and never has been a hierarchic, monolithic organization.
That is a strength, not a weakness.

17. If by disintegrate he means they will take over leadership of Iraq
spread their influence into the rest of the Middle East and weaken or destroy the governments of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Pakistan, and cause massive casualties with Israel, with the outside chance of causing stunning casualties in an America with its head in the clouds, then I agree with him.

If he's using a more traditional definition of disintegrate, he's just flatulating out of the wrong orifice.

"They have served their purpose now that computer voting has been perfected."

Just kidding, sort of.
