Stalled Immigration Reform 'High Priority' for Bush
Tue Nov 9, 2004 05:02 PM ET

By Alistair Bell
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Revamping U.S. immigration laws to let more Mexicans work legally in the United States is a high priority, Secretary of State Colin Powell said, although a skeptical Congress could still block the plan.

Immigration reform has been a source of Mexican frustration with the United States as it languished low on a U.S. government agenda dominated by Iraq, homeland security and this year's national elections.

"The president remains committed to comprehensive immigration reform as a high priority in his second term and he will work closely with our Congress to achieve this goal," Powell said on Tuesday at a ceremony before talks with Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Ernesto Derbez

2. Ship the good paying jobs overseas and then hire Mexicans
at cheap wages to replace lower paying jobs, even Walmart
jobs will become unavailable or we will have to compete
to work in the fields picking tomatoes.

Shrub is starting to dismantle the American dream at a
fast pace now.

3. Loyu Dobbs(CNN) has been doing show after show on this exact
thing for a few years. It will kill the US economy faster than what Bush is already doing. Dobbs has done many polls on this and most Americans are very against this by a huge margin.

5. Even tomato picking jobs will leave under Bush
We now have a trade deficit in food products. When CAFTA and FTAA pass, say goodby to many agricultural jobs. In the future, all fruits and veggies will come from south of the border. Nothing like the flavor of DDT.

6. Don't kid yourself: This isn't limited to just agricultural jobs.
This will cause our already permanent underclass to grow considerably. This is more than Southwestern and California agribusiness getting its way for seasonal field workers. This is about Wal-Mart and Holiday Inns and McDonald's and on and on. This is a sellout to corporations of epoch proportions.

Ask your Senators and Congressmen to list 10 tangible, real-world reasons how their constituents will benefit directly from this bill, and ask to see the independent, nonpartisan studies and data backing this up. They can't and they know it.
