The people of this country better be paying close attention to Iraq as they vote. The cost of this war is skyrocketing daily. But costs I mean the death of Americans, Iraqis, the bankrupting of this nation, the hate it has engendered all over the world. Because this war was so unnecessary and unjustified, it will rank as one of the costliest wars this planet has ever seen. And if the bush* administration has any idea that the latests attacks on Falluja and Ramadi will bring the Iraqi resistance in line, then he wasn't paying any attention to what his friend OBL was telling him.

31. And now CNN says it is Fallujah.
So my respiration returns. And I can ease off hoping it's eight other families who will get a visit they dread.

A car bomb is an obvious method for using the RDX that was looted. Some of it has already been identified when used in a car bomb in Najaf earlier.

Bummer.

Lots of civilians buying it in Fallujah also. And Jim Maceda is saying on MSNBC that a lot of the insurgent bosses may have already slipped out of Dodge.

I hate Bush more every day. Every frigging day.

The Marines are intent on turning this into another Grozny, there is going to be much killing and death on both sides. Many will be civilians who couldn't get out, all this is going to fall directly onto the shoulders of the ones who started this mess.
When the world comes for them I won't stand in the way.

40. Interesting and encouraging comment by Jane Arraf on CNN's 'On the Story'.
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 10:16 AM by TacticalPeak

Arraf reports from Baghdad. I've noticed in the past that she also gets out of the Green zone often - even out in the country.

Asked about how the troops' votes may go, she said that mostly they don't talk about it that much, and that mostly it's along the lines of "I don't care, makes no difference anyhow" and many will not vote, which is a plus for Kerry since it drains what was a support for Boosh in 2000. But when some do talk about it, she found a surprising amount of sympathy for Kerry, perhaps because some of them spend lots of time on the internet.

80. In the case of the Marine Corps,
In the case of the Marine Corps, the difference comes from their leadership and tradition. And a key difference, for me, is that they are on my side.

It would be nice if we did not have wars, if we had no enemies, and had no need for troops. But we have nation states, and will have them for the foreseeable future, and in my analysis the resulting power contests will require that powerful nations have powerful armed forces. Troubling but true.

85. The Marine Corps has no case - Except in recuitment
Statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.
Whoever said had it right! Troubling but true.

8 Marines Dead in Iraq; Car Bomb Kills 7

~snip~

The U.S. military said nine Marines were also wounded in the fighting in Anbar province west of the capital which includes the insurgent stronghold of Fallujah. The statement gave no further on how or where they were killed.

The deaths came as U.S. forces are gearing up for a major assault on Fallujah, seen as the toughest bastion of Sunni Muslim guerrillas, ahead of crucial elections due by Jan. 31.

Fierce clashes erupted Saturday in Fallujah as an American military convoy entered the southeastern industrial Shuhada neighborhood and nearby Nueimiya village — an apparent probing foray on the city's edges. Explosions and gunfire rocked the area and smoke was seen billowing in the air, witnesses said.

Marines responded with heavy artillery fire after insurgents shot mortar shells from positions in the southeast of the city. About 4 p.m. a Marine Harrier jet bombed a mortar position inside Fallujah and strafed it with machine-gun fire, "neutralizing the target and any threat," said Marine spokesman 1st Lt. Lyle Gilbert.

...Shit we lose eight in a "probing foray"??? How many fucking more chimpass*???

55. Insanity
I first saw the same story at excite.com. It came with some pictures of Iraqi children (toddlers) wandering around the "war zone" (their backyards, apparently.)

I cannot believe people are getting killed like this, and young kids are seeing it. How messed up will they be, if they live past 12 years?

This is some serious bad karma.

The Bush administration is a bag of stinking poop and they're gonna end up getting us all killed.

63. The Bushista mentality:
"The statement gave no details of how they were killed or injured and did not say where the engagement took place, citing security."

Yeah, security: wouldn't want the insurgents to know where they'd been fighting U.S. forces, after all. But this hopefully won't provide the real security it is meant to protect -- keeping the American electorate in line. They can classify the deaths, but they can't hide them.

Jesus, those poor families. They're getting those visits now. The Casualty Assistance Calls Officer with his or her little briefcase with the CACO manual, the forms to fill out, the box of tissues, the list of phone numbers....the chaplain, accompanying, with his empty words of "wisdom" and "faith." The shrieks, the screams, the wails. Happy fucking Halloween, looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas??? Gold stars in the window.

This administration is full of assholes. Chickenhawk, chickenshit assholes. I am sickened, yet again, by their incompetence, arrogance, and complete and utter disregard for human life.

93. ARE THEY TELLING US THE TRUTH
It seems to me with all the disinformation coming out of this fascist administration, why should we trust the causality count? Who provides and independent account of the figures?

I question this because of an unrelated subject. Time and again I here CNN’s correspondents state that they are reporting this war from their hotel rooms and within the green zone. It just to dangerous to venture out to cover the war, they say. So where do they get first hand knowledge of the events unfolding on a daily basis? From the Army?

I have reliable information of what’s going on in Iraq. My company is involved with the “Rebuilding Iraq” campaign. We have over 100 people on the ground, scattered all over the country. They are engaged in repair of infrastructure. This is relevant because our employees are working daily “outside” of the Green Zone and outside of Bagdad, and being supported by thousands of Iraq civilians on projects sites everywhere.

Why can we do out job but the media somehow can’t?

And no were no associated with KBR .

109. remember those who are shortening their lives
A Poem That I Wrote In A High Fever

You who are lengthening your lives
with the best doctors and the best medicines
remember those who are shortening their lives
with the wars
that you in your long lives are not
preventing.

You who are again screwing
the younger generations
and winking at each other
the winking of your eyelids
is like the chill of the swinging shutters
in an empty house.

also very sad is the 100,000 Iraqis killed in Bu$h's war, 50% children and women.

In the Iran-Iraq war, almost 9 years of fighting, the majority combattants.

Bu$h's U$ really is more efficient at killing.
