Intelligence on Election Threat Quieted
WASHINGTON - U.S. government officials say the level of information picked up about an election terror threat has ebbed somewhat recently, but they still believe the danger posed by al-Qaida has not waned.

snip

Some view such a trend as a warning, noting a similar lull in the summer before the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Before that lull, in July 2001, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) has said the government picked up "frustratingly vague" messages, including: "Big event — there will be a very, very, very, very big uproar." Then came the lull, then the attacks.

Others see the decline this time as a potentially positive development, or a sign that al-Qaida might be inactive or weakening.

The bottom line is that no one really knows, said Vince Cannistraro, a former CIA (news - web sites) counterterrorism chief.

"It doesn't mean anything," he said. "Quiet means there isn't a lot of talk on al-Qaida Web sites, and it means there isn't any new intelligence."

2. If there was a real threat they wouldn't know it anyway
Let's face it, they have spent a treasure on "Homeland Security" and we are no better off then if they had simply done nothing. In fact we are probably much worse off.

4. What really got me about the article was this paragraph:
<<Before that lull, in July 2001, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice (news - web sites) has said the government picked up "frustratingly vague" messages, including: "Big event — there will be a very, very, very, very big uproar." Then came the lull, then the attacks.>>

Did we know this before? I mean, did we know that she knew, in July, that the gov't was picking up these messages?

5. Yeah, they told us there'd be an attack on the Convention, too

and that turned out to be a complete crock of shit. Desperate people trying desperate last-ditch measures to get the shrub out of the shitter.

on edit: yes, there'll be a terrorist attack on election day - by KKKarl Rove and the rest of the evil cabal, trying to overthrow the government (again).

6. Be afwaid. Be vewwy, vewwy afwaid.
Suddenly, Condi noticed that she could no longer hear any threats. There could only be one reason: there were no threats to be heard! JUST LIKE THE LAST TIME! :tinfoilhat:

Be prepared for Monday's red alert, coming in selected urban areas.

7. You're off the message
The lack of threat means there is a threat. Kind of like Saddam's not having any WMD apparently proved he really did have them.

8. The bush team needs to make a big show of THWARTING an attack
before election day....that's what they're prolly preparing for. It will make them "appear" to be on top of terrorists.

It's all smoke & mirrors for the people who pay their salaries.

14. It really is too late for that. It would look so contrived, no one would
believe it, not even the freepers.

9. Al Qaida websites?
I guess I didn't know they had websites now..must be hell of a shitty marketer with all the bad press they've been getting.

But really though, how is this anything? It could mean a BILLION different things, and DOES mean they want us to be scared.
