Layoffs begin at The Dallas Morning News (125+ jobs)
http://dallas.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2004/10/25/daily40.html?jst=b_ln_hl

BeloCorp. (NYSE: BLC) has begun layoffs at its flagship newspaper The Dallas Morning News, sources within the company said Wednesday.

"We've said we were going to lay off around 250 people, with more than half of that coming from The Dallas Morning News, and that is certainly what is happening," said Carey Hendrickson, Belo's vice president-investor relations.

Hendrickson declined to comment further.

The Dallas-based media conglomerate in September announced it would cut 250 jobs, mostly at its flagship newspaper The Dallas Morning News, by Nov. 1.

Proof that working for a rightwing rag will not protect employees.

5. I Feel For These People...
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 06:19 PM by Greylyn58
as I lost my job with my local paper, The Charlotte Observer last year in Oct. My job was outsourced to another state if you can believe that. The rotten economy drove up paper costs and people were stopping their subscriptions as were advertisers. Damn Bush!!!

I am currently studying to become a medical transcriptionist. I hope to be finished in about a month.

11. With all the voter intimidation and fraud going on, I suspect the RW rags
are figuring there will be no need for staffs at papers/TV stations and so on. They are figuring on a regime where there will be no need for staff other than turning on the machines by which the ruling CEOs will dispense their edicts.

12. My girlfriend works for the Morning News
She survived the layoffs. Many of her friends didn't, including a man with a 30-plus-year history with the News who is battling some kind of bad medical problem (cancer, I think).

Another person laid off, someone I've worked with tangentially, is a youngish single dad with four kids.

This is my girlfriend's second layoff scare since she joined the News, and it's our third overall since we moved to the Dallas area in 2001. I was laid off at Southern Methodist University and have had two jobs since then, both with significantly lower pay and fewer benefits.

Oh, I also voted today, as did my girlfriend. Just our own little attempt to "outsource" shrub and any other Rethugs on the ballot.

for defining the heartless, lying, Repug connected shitty corporation.

If corporations enjoy the perversion of the 14th amendment and personhood, then we owe it to ourselves to ask what kind of citizen these 'persons' are.

This issue of consitutional perversion, now run amok for 150 years, is the Main Problem with our country and its increasingly fragile democracy.

I encourage you to spread this link and post it here often:

16. Instead of laying off workers
why not lay off the editorial board for being nothing but hollow shills?
