(Talladega, Alabama)Daily Home News Endorses Kerry (awesome *Co indictment

Next four should belong to Kerry

Four more years. That's what President George W. Bush is asking the American people to go along with on Nov. 2 when they cast their vote.

Do they want four more years of what he has to offer? Or is the country sadly off track and in need of a new direction?

Based on what has happened in this country over the past four years, we hope voters recognize that it is the latter.

We do not believe this country can stand four more years of the secrecy that keeps the public's business from the public, ideology that isolates us from the rest of the world or an unwillingness to admit wrongs that continue to add to a growing death toll.

<snip>

The president has forgotten the little man. In one of the debates, while children and seniors worry over whether there will be enough flu vaccines, the president answered the shortage with talk of pharmaceutical companies as victims of lawsuit abuse.

Ask your neighbor, a senior citizen or yourself, just who needs protection when it comes to buying skyrocketing prescription drugs?

While Vice President Dick Cheney has fought to keep energy policy meetings a secret, one of those attending, Ken Lay of Enron, would later be accused of bilking millions of dollars from unsuspecting "little guys" whose 401K retirement funds went to zero.

Talladega goes for Kerry???

Well, this part of the countryside is definitely deep red, but I will tell you though, as far as the ladies, they love to party.

There is a reason for the phrase "Party time in Talladega". Thus in this regard, they are as liberal as it gets. I love the way they speak.

There is an image I have of a stunning young lady dancing in the back of a pick-up truck the evening after a NASCAR race. There was a large bonfire with men and women dancing around the fire to tunes from the group "Alabama". With the young lady in the truck encouraging them on.

And as for the men, well they are conservative, no doubt there, but they also try to "do the right thing". So I think they can be commended in this regard.

On edit: I will add one more item.

A corporation, the Monsanto company has lost a lawsuit in this area forcing them to clean-up AND compensate residents in the area subjected to the ill effects of PCB poisoning of the land. They are well aware of the unchecked greed that corporations operate from in the pursuit of profit and wealth.

14. Anniston is not only contaminated by PCBs but has the

Anniston Army Depot which is the home of several thousand tons of nerve gas and other chemical weapons stored there for decades. To make matters worse, the Army is now in the process of incinerating the chemical weapons.

They claim this is perfectly safe but they have also issued gas masks to thousands of area residents, following a lawsuit by the state's former governor (a Democrat, of course!) Before the lawsuit, the Army told residents to protect themselves with plastic and duct tape.

Oh, yes, there are safer methods to dispose of the deadly chemicals but the government liked the idea of incineration better. Insanity.

:grr:

12. So did I. Here it is:
Excellent editorial endorsement! One of the best I've read anywhere. Clear, concise, and absolutely damning of Bush. This country cannot go through four more years of Bush and you gave the germane and compelling reasons why.

Thank you very much,

6. You can tell they've thought long and hard before making this decision
It's so wonderful learning about this endorsement. From the article:
Kerry can deliver that strategy by bringing allies back to the table, not to veto, but to join us in a common objective.

On the homefront, he will look out for the "little guy" by rolling back tax cuts on the wealthiest and putting it in the pockets of the poor and middle class who are the hard working foundation of this nation.

And he will work for lifting the ban on funding for new stem cell research so that our friends and family can have hope once again.

Kerry has been wrongly painted as weak and indecisive because he does not see the world as purely black and white. It's not. The world is a complex place, and a president can't solve its problems with one-sentence quips.

We need a president who thinks before he acts, but is not afraid to act. We need a president who won't forget the little guy. We need a president who can bring the world together, not tear it apart.

John Kerry will be that kind of president. And he has our support on Nov. 2.
(snip/)
Have NEVER seen an election this critical in my life, and we've had some ugly ones, haven't we?

Thanks for the possible sunlight, UpInArms!

8. It definitely started my day on an upnote, JudiLyn
These have been the hardest years of my life (and I wasn't certain that would have been possible).

In spite of all the bad news that I post, I do look for good things out there.

7. That is wonderful!
This paper serves a large area of central Alabama, an area that is generally conservative working folks, and a mixture of white and black. Talladega is NASCAR land in Alabama. What this paper is saying to them is, "Stop being taken in and start thinking. YOU are the little guy, and YOU are suffering under Bush."

This is my first post, btw. :)

I've been living in Talladega Cty for all of my 24 years. I think is endorsement is a bold move. I'm interested to see how it plays out.

15. Welcome!
I lurked for a long time and still don't post very often but I find this site to be one of the best for keeping in touch with what's going on, not only in our country but the entire world. There are posters here who must have some mind boggling credentials judging from the quality of their posts, TahitiNut,Papau and ProfessorGAC to name a few; makes me wonder who they are in the so-called real world. Enjoy your stay - you will find it addictive but incredibly enlightening.

18. Welcome from another newbie - (sorry, this is off subject)
and sorry we beat the Tide this year. (Too bad we could not take out those Auburn Tigers for you; you'll have to do it yourselves, and I say, Rama Jama, Yella Hamma, Give 'em Hell, Alabama! Roll Tide!"

16. Holy Moly!
This is big!

Not that the paper has a wide circulation, but that it is located in the belly of Bush country. Talladega - home of the Talladega 500 NASCAR race. Rural Alabama. Wow.

They showed the Birmingham News and Post Herald who has courage and who doesn't. The damn News endorsed Bush. But that wasn't a surprise, the News is the worst paper I have ever read.

Good for Talladega Daily Home! I'll have to write them a letter.
