Voter registration fraud in Colorado..(freepers blame Dems)

KUSA-TV Denver
I-Team investigation uncovers voter registration fraud
written by: Deborah Sherman (I-Team Reporter)and Nicole Vap (Executive Producer Investigative)

DENVER - With just 21 days left until an election in which every vote will count, the 9News I-Team has uncovered voter registration fraud that could cause chaos on Election Day for hundreds, possibly thousands of Colorado voters. 9News has discovered a record number of fraudulent voter-registrations across the state. Secretary of State Donetta Davidson tells 9News she is concerned about what the I-Team has uncovered and wants those responsible prosecuted. "It has just gone rampant," she told reporter Deborah Sherman in an interview Monday afternoon.

Most of the fraud has come from registration drives, where people at grocery stores or on the streets ask you to sign up. 9News has learned many workers have re-registered voters multiple times by changing or making up information about them. 9News has documented 719 cases of potentially fraudulent forms at county election offices show fraudulent names, addresses, social security numbers or dates of birth in Denver, Douglas, Adams, Boulder and Lake counties. Information from other counties is still coming in.

Some voter registration application forms are completely bogus. Others belong to legitimate voters, who have had one or two facts changed that could affect their registration when they show up at the polls November 2nd. Tom Stanislawski registered to vote six years ago. But this summer, someone signed him up again and changed his party affiliation. "My concern would be I'd walk in November 2nd and be unable to vote," he said.

Some of the registration drive workers earn $2 per application or about $10 an hour. One woman admitted to forging three people's names on about 40 voter registration applications. Kym Cason says she was helping her boyfriend earn more money from a get-out-the-vote organization called ACORN or Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. ACORN works with low or moderate-income families on housing issues. Cason said her extra registrations earned her boyfriend $50.

1. Did the reporters for this story actually SEE the fraudulent
registrations?

I don't trust ANYone about such things these days -- this could so easily be a REpug dirty trick planted story as a cover for their own nefarious upcoming cheatin' deeds.

11. Get used to this....
Repugs are already making stuff up.

http://www.dkosopedia.com/index.php/Voter_Registration_Fraud_Clearinghouse

"Neal Breitweiser, a low-level Republican operative from St. Louis, has submitted a petition to the the St. Louis County Board of Election Commissioners. He asks the board to investigate registration fraud he alleges has been commited by the Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition, America Coming Together, and MoveOn.org.
...
"He speaks of hundreds of registrations being trashed by those organisations. The organisations are defending themselves, and have declared that it is not the first time Republicans make similar baseless accusations.
...
"Is this an attempt by Republicans to cover their asses the Nevada Voters Outreach scandal that is sure to break, so they can accuse Democrats of the same thing ? I don't know, but it scares me.
...
"Source: http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/local/9901866.htm bugmenot.com for registration info --Kryostat 20:46, 12 Oct 2004 (PDT)
...
"In Missouri no party affiliation is stated on the voter registration form, so the Republican accusation is bizarre as well as baseless."

5. Exactly
I just saw the same story on the news.

It was an issue where some groups were paying people per registration to get people signed up. Two of the people interviewed on camera literally laughed about how they signed themselves up as well as friends and family members multiple times because they needed the money.

I did not hear them mention whether there were more Democrats or Republicans which is a good thing. Nice solid reporting.

But, I will say, I don't care whether they were Democrats or Republicans or supports of Gnaxk from Zeldomorph, it makes me sick to see this sort of thing happening. I am sure that all of those registrations would be caught (well, one would hope anyway), but taking advantage of the system like this is just wrong.

The one thing I was struck by in the reporting is that I felt it seemed they were trying to make the 'workers' out to be the victims because they were being paid on a per registration basis. Personally, I say prosecute 'em all! The workers and then, if it is found that the groups knew about the multiple registrations, then get them too!

This system CAN work. But only if it works as it should.

7. Yep, prosecute the offenders.
But, in the short-term, do whatever is necessary to insure valid voters can vote.

Librarian bares possible voter registration dodge

Company claiming affiliation with the non-partisan ‘America Votes’ group appears to represent the GOP

By MEG LANDERS
Mail Tribune

A local librarian checking on a company’s request to set up a voter registration booth in the library discovered the company was not affiliated with a non-partisan national group as it claimed.

Sproul & Associates, Inc. of Phoenix, Ariz., phoned and mailed the library in September, saying it had been hired by America Votes.

That came as news to America Votes.

"This organization (Sproul) absolutely has nothing to do with America Votes," said Kevin Looper, the state organizing director for America Votes.

America Votes is a non-partisan political organization formed in July 2003 to increase voter registration, education and participation in electoral politics.

(LIBS-OR) SCAM ALERT: Voter Registration

Subject: SCAM ALERT: Voter Registration

Recently the Jackson County Library has been contacted by persons purporting to represent America Votes. Our director was contacted by a Harry Miller and asked to call an 800 number to give permission for America Votes to conduct a non-partisan voter registration project in our libraries.

I received a letter from Sproul and Associates,a consulting firm in Arizona, also saying they represented America Votes, with the same request.

I contacted the Kevin Looper, the Oregon State Coordinator for America Votes, to verify the information and received this reply from him:

"Here is what I know: We do not have a Harry Miller in our employ.
This organization is absolutely not representing America Votes, and my national leadership is initiating action to get them to cease and desist representations that infringe upon our rights and mislead voters.

Further, Sproul and Associates is a partisan political consulting firm based in Arizona that works for very conservative causes and has worked to oppose campaign finance reform. Their use of our name to cover their political leanings makes me question the overall intregrity of the voter registation that they seek to conduct. I will be forwarding this information to the Secretary of State's office for further investigation."

ROB THE VOTE 2004
Voter-registration forms shredded in Vegas
FBI told applications of Democrats tossed in trash

LAS VEGAS – The FBI has been notified that hundreds of voter-registration forms have been intentionally discarded or destroyed by a private company hired by the Republican Party to sign people up to vote.

According to KLAS-TV, the local CBS affiliate, employees who worked for Voters Outreach of America allege scores of registration forms were thrown in the trash.

The company reportedly employed up to 300 part-time workers and collected hundreds of registrations per day.

But according to some former employees, Voters Outreach of America sought only Republican registrations. The station reports the company has been largely, if not entirely funded, by the Republican National Committee.

Two ex-workers for Voters Outreach say they personally witnessed company supervisors tear up and trash registration forms signed by Democrats.

"We caught her taking Democrats out of my pile, handed them to her assistant and he ripped them up right in front of us," said Eric Russell, a former employee interviewed by KLAS. "I grabbed some of them out of the garbage and she tells her assistant to get those from me."

Russell was able to retrieve some shredded paperwork including signed voter-registration forms, all of which were from Democrats.

10. Eewh. Too bad they didn't do this story huh. I saw the other one
mentioned in a previous post. They interviewed two Black people who admitted it; one seemed slightly off his rocker. What a pity. I think they should get jail time myself.
