Germany: Hijab ban applies to nuns
A German federal court has ruled that a regional law preventing Muslim teachers from wearing headscarves in public schools must also apply to Christian nuns.

The Federal Administrative Court said a law passed in April by the southwestern state of Baden-Wuerttemberg was unfair, according to the news magazine Der Spiegel on Monday.

Judges said the ban was only being applied to Muslim women yet permitted Christian symbols.

Nuns, who often work in public schools in the predominantly Roman Catholic Black Forest region of the state, will now be required to remove their habits before entering the classroom.

1. Q: Did you hear it's okay for priests to kiss nuns?
A: As long as they don't get in the habit.

Sorry, old joke, just couldn't resist...

3. that makes sense!
is there any way that we can pass something like this here? In places like Florida, where they harassed a woman for covering in her driver's license photo. It is only fair that we apply the same standard to ALL religions.

6. that florida case
involved a woman who would not let her face be photographed for a license, not just her hair. Of course, the real way to get around that is to wear that clownish make-up so favored by women in the wing-nut churchs. Don't even look human by the time they are done.

5. Most orders of nuns have moved to ordinary dress already
The ones who insist on wearing the head coverings, should be ok if they are in a cloistered PRIVATE institution.. This whole hubbub is very similar to our "prayer in school" issue.. It's about PUBLIC education vs private..

My friend teaches at a Catholic school.. They pray all the time, and even go to mass DURING school.. That's perfectly ok, because all the parents who send their kids there, KNOW it and willingly pay for it..

The "display" of religion in PUBLICLY FUNDED/ATTENDED schools is what's wrong.. It's no different that streetgangs wearing their "colors" to get a reaction from their enemies..
