House passes hotly contested bill on intelligence reform
Posted on Fri, Oct. 08, 2004

<snip> Lawmakers voted 210-203 to enact one controversial provision, opposed by the White House, to permit deportation of suspected terrorists to countries known to torture detainees. The Senate bill doesn't include such terms. The House initially voted to strip out the provision, but GOP leaders forced a second vote, and they won when five Republicans switched. <snip>

2. So, the words "human rights" and "American values" are relative, right?
I wouldn't feel to sorry if somebody tortured those bastards who are beheading and blowing up innocent civilians, but I'd feel bad if the torturers only thought they were torturing terrorists and it just happened they'd victimized another innocent. Somebody has to take the high road. I can bet you it won't be a Republican.

4. It will be good to have documentation of how the US wishes its nationals

to be treated when seized by a foreign power. Although actual practice had made it quite clear for some time, having it on paper will clear up any confusion.

There are currently around 200 thousand US nationals engaged in hostile aggression against local populations in various locations around the globe.
