Senate Intel Chair Faults CIA Chief on Iraq Flap
Senate Intel Chair Faults CIA Chief on Iraq Flap
Fri July 11, 2003 03:42 PM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Republican chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee criticized the CIA on Friday for "sloppy handling" of faulty information that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Africa, and specifically blamed CIA Director George Tenet.

"So far, I am very disturbed by what appears to be extremely sloppy handling of the issue from the outset by the CIA," Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas said in a statement.

He said that as late as about 10 days before President Bush's January State of the Union speech, the CIA was "still asserting that Iraq was seeking to acquire uranium from Africa and that those attempts were further evidence of Saddam's efforts to reconstitute his nuclear program."

3. OK, so this is it.
It's come down to who will take the fall, Bush or Tenet? Tenet has truth on his side, so I'm hopeful. But not too.

4. Either Tenet has volunteered to fall on his sword or
they're setting him up to twist slowly in the wind.

5. Will the CIA do something dramatic?
Or will they just keep leaking to discredit WH arguments? It'd be a beautiful thing to see Tenet hold a press conference and just shit all over the neocons. It'd be a "have you no shame" moment!

I'll buy that for a dollar!!!

6. If Tenet Takes The Fall-What About 9/11
Why did Junior keep him on after 9/11?

Wasn't that enough of a failure to have jettisoned Tenet then?

If Tenet takes the fall it will just make gross incompetence evident on Junior's part for keeping him on after Sept. 11th.

7. Tenet will fall
He's always been expendable to the regime and I think he can see the writing on the wall. If he has any respect for himself and his agency he should tell the truth and make it obvious that he's going to be the fall guy. Why protect the regime anymore. Condi already pointed the finger at him anyway.

8. This is the first time I've seen Pat Roberts take a dive
for his party. I thought he was one of the cleaner Republicans.

Pat's gone to the dark side. Why would a man sacrifice his credibility for something as malignant as the Bush plan?
