Frost ad says he supported Bush when Sessions wouldn't
Frost ad says he supported Bush when Sessions wouldn't

LISA FALKENBERG

Associated Press

DALLAS - Sirens on Sept. 11, scenes of the twin towers aflame and President Bush calling Congress to action to secure the skies. These may seem like elements of an ad for a Republican candidate.

Unless you're in Texas, where they're the makings of a powerful TV and radio ad campaign launched this week by Democratic U.S. Rep. Martin Frost. The congressman is trying desperately to keep his job in a district that tilts Republican.

The ads claim Frost backed air safety reforms pushed by Bush and Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison - including stronger cockpit doors, air marshals and cargo screening - while Republican opponent U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions voted against them.

"U.S. Rep. Frost: Putting America's safety above partisan politics," the radio ad's narrator says. "Working with President Bush to protect us."

2. Actually,
Many of those reforms were suggested by the Hart-Rudman report released months BEFORE September 11. They were eventually pushed(far too late) by
many not just * and Hutchinson. I guess Frost has to use Chimpy somewhat to win in Texas. I have no idea why Sessions voted against it. It probably did not have enough pork for him.

3. True, and some by the Gore Commission before that
Why the Democrats don't bring up the Gore Commission more often, i don't know. I guess it's because no one is sure how the public will react to Gore's name. But even so, it highlights the failures of the Republicans to fight terrorism, and proves their lies.

Every single thing W did to fight terrrorims after 911 was an idea pushed by the Clinton/Gore team before 911 and rejected by the Republicans. There is no more clear indictment of the Republicans, no greater admission on their part that they failed than the acceptance after the attacks of all the plans they had rejected before the attacks.

Frost is running in a very mixed district were no one knows exactly how the voters will vote this time.

10. And will continue to be the kiss of death
until someone has the courage to set the record straight.

I said I understand why Frost is doing it. I don't understand why the entire Democratic Party is.

7. The Dems have missed many golden opportunities to set the record
straight. The Kerry campaign has all the "substantive" information they need. They just don't know how to use it.

Cockpit reinforcement would have cost too much, along with other security measures at DFW International, home to AA.

Interesting side note, I live almost across the street from Frost Headquarters in North Dallas. On Sunday we drove around in Richardson and saw many Kerry-Edwards and Frost signs in my old neighborhood. I was very pleasantly surprised. After driving around we stopped in at an art festival that has been happening for many years now, Cottonwood Arts Festival, where artists are there by invitation only. Many of the artists from around the country talked with us because I had my Kerry-Edwards buttons on. None of them were for Bush and they had lots to say about the Patriot Act, about the lies and deceptions, about the fear of speaking out, the intimadation. They thanked me for being "brave".

This morning I drove through Park Cities area. There were lots of Bush-Cheney, Sessions signs.

Interesting times we live in and I am so ready for this next 4 weeks to be over although I'm certain we're in for a very long winter. We are being set up for a repeat of 2000 in more than just Florida. I can already hear "to close to call" ringing out all night long throughout this country. God help us all.

4. Lloyd Doggett
Lloyd Doggett is one of the most liberal Representatives in DC. Delay's redistricting plan was seen by many as mainly an attempt to get rid of Doggett. He turned Doggett's district (where I live) into a heavily Republican district by dividing Austin into thirds and tying his old district to north Houston.

Doggett will win, anyway, because he moved to a new district.

But my point is on how Doggett first got elected, back in the mid 90s. He ran commercials that sounded purely Republican, showing him as tough on crime and against government spending. He out Republicaned the Republicans. Once in, he became one of the most progressive members of Congress.

I can forgive Frost for this. Anything to screw up Delay's plans.

6. Martin Frost is an intelligent, decent person.
That's why Tom DeLay hates him. DeLay would hate Frost even if he weren't a Democrat.

If you live near Frost's district you should campaign for him. If you don't you should help in other ways. Martin Frost is one person we definitely need fighting for us.

Sorry for the unabashed boosterism. This is a race I feel very strongly about. :)

8. Give me a break

Cookie- Hey, I DO live near the redrawn district Martin Frost is seeking. Will I be out helping Mr. Frost?

Well, I saw Mr. Frost at a dinner only weeks prior to the Iraq invasion. At the dinner he was introduced and drew gushing compliments from one of our area's staunchest Republicans, the Arlington mayor who pushed taxpayers to build W's baseball stadium.

And why shouldn't Republican's fawn over Frost? He was hog-wild to support the invasion.

And before you dis me for speaking poorly of a fellow Democrat, may I point out Martin Frost ran against an incumbent Democrat, Dale Milford, to become the party's congressional nominee. Admittedly, this was decades ago.

9. I remember when Frost challenged Nancy Pelosi's bid
to be Gephardt's successor as House Minority Leader. Fortunately, he wasn't successful.
