Insults fly as debate gets personal
By Phillip Coorey
October 07, 2004
US VICE-President Dick Cheney and his Democratic Party rival John Edwards clashed in a spiteful pre-election debate yesterday that featured personal attacks on each other's records and bitter disagreements over the war in Iraq.

Senator Edwards, a 51-year-old political novice, refused to be intimidated by the 63-year-old Mr Cheney, a four-decade Washington veteran, saying "a long resume does not equal good judgment".

1. Has Coorey never seen a bitter disagreement?
That's sure not what I saw last night! I need to take Coorey to the woodshed and show him what that's like!

Bush, Cheney 'Out of Touch with Reality' -Edwards
Wed Oct 6, 2004 08:47 PM ET

By Jeff Franks
GREENSBORO, N.C. (Reuters) - Democratic vice presidential hopeful John Edwards charged on Wednesday that the Bush administration is "completely out of touch with reality" and not telling the truth about Iraq or the state of the U.S. economy.

Edwards, in appearances in the key battleground state of Florida and his home state of North Carolina, kept up an attack he launched the night before in a sometimes vitriolic debate with Vice President Dick Cheney.

3. For Dick Cheney to use the blood of the many Americans that he has sent so
callously to die, as he does when he accuses Edwards of demeaning the troops' sacrifice because Edwards is pointing out correctly that America bears 90% of the Casualties in Iraq due to poor planning on the part of Cheney and our Commander in Chief, is beyond the pale.

And for Cheney to say, "Frankly Senator you have a record that is not very distinguished" ... is really nothing more than a blunt assertion of Cheney's own undistinguished record of service.

Does the United States need a pair of bozos like Bush and Cheney leading this country? Absolutely not!

Could Gwen Ifill have come up with a better set of questions which could have moved the answer period forward without getting stuck in the merry-go-round that it got stuck in? I happen to think she could have.

4. 90% of the COALITION Casualties...
...as Edwards pointed out, and then pointed out he'd said COALITION. And they haven't bothered much counting the civilian or cpa dead, but now they want to to drive down US numbers by comparison. It's "selective dead counting" for fun and profit...

8. Well, Dick, I think that including the Iraqis
"denigrates" the AMERICAN deaths, you jerk.

6. Edwards hit him hard
There's no connection between Saddam Hussein and the attacks of September 11, period," he said. "You have gone around the country suggesting there is some connection and there is not. You are still not being straight with the American people."

Mr Cheney denied he had made the link, claiming he said Iraq had an established record with terrorism.
