British Operations in Iraq Cost $2.7B

LONDON - Britain spent more than $2.7 billion on peacekeeping operations in Iraq in the 10 months following the end of initial combat there, the Ministry of Defense said Wednesday.

That was on top of $5.4 billion the government has previously said Britain spent fighting the actual war.

The new figures cover costs until April of this year.

They were part of an overall defense expenditure of $67 billion in the fiscal year 2003-04, the ministry said.
