Relief Workers Warn of Disease Epidemic Concerns in Haiti

Relief workers are warning of an epidemic-size outbreak of diseases like malaria and tetanus in Haiti, as a humanitarian crisis mounts following devastating floods last week.
Reports from the flood-ravaged city of Gonaives Monday say many homes remain under water and many residents have not eaten for days.

U.N. peacekeepers and aid workers are struggling to distribute food and supplies throughout the country, but have been slowed by washed out roads and security concerns.

Meanwhile, hungry residents are continuing to riot and attempting to loot aid convoys.

A spokeswoman for the World Food Programme says enough food has been distributed for about 200,000 people, but she says this is only a small amount of what will be needed.

1. So, so sad. After this round of killing has come and gone

there will be so few remaining of the people who were there before the program of destabilization of Arisitide and the ensuing arming and training of rebels in the Dominican Republic, and the return from the States of some vicious killers who had been holed up here, waiting to be able to strike at the right moment.

Eventually, all that will be left will be the wealthiest, safe behind their thick walls and barricades and teams of hired thugs. The effect will be similar to "bombing them back to the Stone Age" for everyone else there.

Then, the island will be safe for leveling old buildings, and rebuilding resorts, more sweat mills, and coaxing what few citizens remain to come forward to receive their newly decreased wages for working nearly around the clock for American companies like Disney, sewing those little kids' clothes for American children, while their own have NOTHING whatsoever to wear other than a couple of changes of rags, if they're lucky. It probably got some American owners righteously steamed when the citizens dared to ask for 37 or 39 cents a day for their long day's labor. The new arrangement will fix that problem.
