Maryland GOP seeks resignation of head of new Hispanic caucus
Top Republicans angered by his criticism of Ehrlich

When Jorge Ribas spoke out about a dearth of Hispanic hiring by Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., he hoped to prod the administration into action.

Instead, he may have created another vacancy.

The Republican Party of Maryland -- with Ehrlich's blessing -- is demanding that Ribas resign as chairman of the nascent Maryland Hispanic Republican Caucus, a group formed this year to bring Latinos into the party fold.

Party leaders say his intemperate and divisive remarks in the media and elsewhere have cast the governor in a poor light.

"He has a hard time controlling what he says doesn't irritate and insult people who are trying to help his own group," said John Kane, the state GOP chairman. (snip/...)

1. MD GOP to Latinos: "Just shut up and vote Republican"
Mr. Ribas didn't realize that he and the rest of the state Hispanic Repuke Caucus were intended only to be party Latino spokesmodels -- not to actually voice an opinion or certainly not hold a post within the administration.

Not to fear -- in 2006 Gov. Err-lick will be out on his ear, and the new Gov., Marty O'Malley, will lead an administration that "looks like Maryland," to paraphrase Bill Clinton.

2. Yeah
I hope there isn't a brutal primary as Mont. County exec Doug Duncan might run.

6. I dislike Duncan intensely
and I would hate to see him governor of Maryland.

I know Maryland, like most states, has real financial problems. But I think Ehrlich and the other Republicans have done their best to screw Montgomery County, which will hurt Duncan's chances.

I am for O'Malley.

5. I think you mean Donkey, Not Monkey
Entirely different meaning. ;)

Anyway, I'm hoping Bill Richardson is chosen as running mate for the democratic primary winner. He's a good guy and I think it will wake up some hispanics who have trended republican in the last couple elections..

3. Better Ribas learn how Republicans really think of latinos now,
than later.

7. For Us or against us
Erlich seems to be taking his cues from Bunnypants. You are either for us or you are with the terrorists (or democrats, whatever). Yeah, that's the ticket, Erlich. Insult the fastest growing minority in Maryland. Should improve your chances in 06. Thick skinned he ain't, that is for sure.
