Kerry: Bush has wrong priority

Democrat says going after
Saddam was bad choice
The Associated Press
Updated: 4:14 p.m. ET Sept. 24, 2004
PHILADELPHIA - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry faulted President Bush on Friday for pursuing Saddam Hussein instead of Sept. 11 mastermind Osama bin Laden, a choice Kerry contended had made defeating terrorism more difficult. Kerry laid out his own plan to combat terrorism.

advertisement“The invasion of Iraq was a profound diversion from the battle against our greatest enemy, al-Qaida,” Kerry said in a speech at Temple University. “There’s just no question about it. The president’s misjudgment, miscalculation and mismanagement of the war in Iraq all make the war on terror harder to win.”

1. This is the line of attack I've been wanting whoever the dem
nominee was to make--that Bush has blown it on getting Bin-Laden and diverting attention to the War in Iraq. Now the only problem is if suddenly Bin-Laden is captured in the last week of October.

2. Don't worry
Bin Laden sure doesn’t want to be captured and if he was in custody we’d have heard about it. Too many people would have to keep tight-lipped.

3. They failed at the DNC
...to pull anyone of note out of the bag. That told me they don't have control of the situation over there in Afghanistan at all.

I get the feeling Osama truly is too elusive to catch, because GWB screwed up royally.

4. Exactly... Bush's PRIORITIES are totally whacked
And Bush's inability to prioritize is bankrupting this country just like every other business he's ever run.

- Saddam over Osama
- Iraq over Al Qaeda
- Gay-bashing over unity and national security (think translators)
etc.

5. Mike Malloy said a couple of weeks ago that Osama is different
from Sadaam. He is a Muslim martyr. They better hope they do not catch him or murder him.

6. Exactly...
Thanks to Bushco, Al Qaeda has become much bigger and independent of Osama. Catching him might briefly make Bush look good until people would realize that he could have been caught two years ago if we had put in the assets we did in Iraq and we wouldn't be stuck in this sucking quagmire/meat grinder/gravy train for Halliburton.

Kerry has to keep the public reminded that Bush had a golden opportunity to capture Bin Laden and passed it up in favor of Iraq and to placate Pakistan. It doesn't hurt to suggest that they passed this up in order to go into Iraq, just the way they did with Zarqawi, who was in the northern Kurdish provinces.
