Allawi says growing attacks a sign of insurgents desperation

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The head of Iraq (news - web sites)'s interim government, Iyad Allawi, said ahead of a speech to the US Congress that the growing number of attacks in his country was a sign of the desperation of insurgents not their strength.

"They are becoming more deadly because we think they are getting more desperate," the prime minister said in an interview with the New York Times published Thursday.

While US and Iraqi forces suffer a mounting casualty toll, Allawi said: "We think they are on the defensive rather than on the offensive."

He added: "We think that because our capabilities are improving, we are hitting them simultaneously, and as we are getting more precision, they are becoming deadlier and are attacking the recruits and the police because they have been hurt by these people."

But really....more deadly attacks cause they are despearate? Seems to me they're more organized now, than they were a year ago.

15. Fierce fighting rages in Hayfa Street area of Baghdad.
An Associated Press reporter near the scene(The Reporter could
have been in his hotel and been near the scene) said a U.S. AC-130 was attacking Sadr City.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6021654/

This would explain the AA fire coming up behind the hotels
yesterday.

And just now CNN said Allawi said insurgents had been pushed out of Samarra. LAO.

Wednesday, 22 September 2004.

Four US troops die in Resistance ambush on convoy south of Samarra’.

Four US troops were killed when the Iraqi Resistance attacked
a US supply convoy 25km south of Samarra’. The
local correspondent of Mafkarat al-Islam in Samarra’
reported that a bomb exploded under the convoy and
then Resistance fighters opened up with rocket-
propelled grenades at 8:30pm Wednesday night local time.
One US Bradley armored vehicle was disabled, as were
two Humvees. Two civilian Mercedes model 2000 trucks
carrying primary supplies for tanks were destroyed, and four
US troops aboard those vehicles were
killed.

31. And it really pisses off the NeoCons when they're reminded that...
...the French navy fought the British Navy to a standstill, and that about half the troops surrounding the British positions at Yorktown were French.

Oh, the irony.

9. Pretty effective with their desperation aren't they....
I mean they've only dispatched hundreds of Iraqi recruits and thousands of other civilians. Some would call these acts of desperation which are now occurring regularly on a daily basis successful. But then again, if we say it, the terrorists win.

12. Is anyone really paying any attention to this man?
When Bush says these things his devoted followers are are nodding and clapping. Those very same Bushbots and dittoheads don't get the same thrill when the words come from some foreign stooge's mouth.

The rest of the world has their attention elsewhere.

hope Iraqis don't allow him back in the country. Let him camp out at the White house with boosh.

My god, how can that man stand there and lie when bush's ware is making a carnage of his innocent people. Could be that Dr. Allawi is more a Frankenstein than boosh. Muslin leaders must run him out of town.

22. They say that Allawi is wearing a cast from banging his arm on a
table in frustration at the situation in Iraq. I think it would have been great for some democrat in the house to ask him if that was a sign of "desperation" on his part.

I don't that sort of temper fits in well with a "leader" of a country... could get out of hand now and again. Maybe it already has.... maybe that is what some of the ruckus is about.. one never knows and one will never know if their only source is the telly... here... in these United States.

Allawi... I hope you are going to enjoy the civil war that is fomenting in your country.... I hope you will be able to thank us for that as well.

19. William Shirer has an amusing anecdote about Hitler when Molotov
visited him in Berlin to negotiate the Russo-German Peace Treaty.Just as Hitler boasted about Germany's mighty war machine, allied bombers came overhead and dropped a few bombs making it necessary for the German Generals to take cover in a bomb shelter. As they got inside, Hitler said to Molotov, that "we are in a life and death struggle against the allies".Molotov, not known to miss an opportunity, said "you are right. We can say that you are fighting for your life and they are fighting for your death".

May be Allawi can take a few pointers from this story. The Iraqi insurgents know that the vast majority of the Iraqi people know Allawi is an American Quisling who will get his due at the appropriate time. You might say, as Molotov said to Hitler, the insurgents are fighting for Allawi's death and Allawi is fighting for his life.

20. A desperate Karl Rove !!
The election bounce is gone, and tens of millions of dollars have been spent with limited
success trying to make this election about Kerry. And Kerry has suddenly opened a new front
on his assault against Bush that Rove thought would never happen. Suddenly everybody in the media is talking about this new development.

So what is Karl Rove to do ? He dives into damage control mode, brings the administration's other Poodle over(first one being Blair) and parades him through Congress making him read
carefully scripted speeches.

How PATHETIC !

Well Mr Rove, the tables have been turned on you now. Aren't you the one who is known to attack an opponent's strengths rather than his weaknesses ? You wanted this to be about the war on "Terror". So let it be.

25. How about the 45 Minute Claim?? huh? HUH?,we want answers!!
Edited on Thu Sep-23-04 10:36 AM by bluedog

yea guys.he got us into this f'ing mess!!!

Allawi channelled the report from an Iraqi officer claiming that Iraq could deploy its supposed weapons of mass destruction within "45 minutes" to British Intelligence. <7>

This claim featured prominently in the September Dossier which the British government released in 2002 to gain public support for the Iraq invasion. In the aftermath of the war, the "45 minute claim" was also at the heart of the confrontation between the British government and the BBC, and the death of David Kelly later examined by Lord Hutton. Giving evidence to the Hutton Inquiry, the head of MI6 Richard Dearlove suggested that the claim related to battlefield weapons rather than weapons of mass destruction.<8>

An Allawi spokesman admitted in January 2004 that the claim was a "crock of shit."<9>
