A tiny room with no proper ventilation to allow him fresh air or light to read at any time of day. A tiny room in which there is no toilet but a small bucket for relieving himself. A small bucket that goes uncollected by prison guards for weeks or even months.

A tiny room in which a baby cot can hardly fit. A tiny room in which he will sleep on a hard concrete floor with no blankets. A tiny room in which he may be kept naked during his first years of imprisonment.

War brings starvation - Biafra, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Chad, Sudan, Liberia and Somalia.


Until there is a radical reassessment of the arms trade and its consequences, millions more will be directly or indirectly killed by this lethal business.


The bottom line is that there is a lot of money to be made in weapons, and this motivates arms manufacturing.


To add to high profit margins, all arms manufactures are heavily subsidised and protected by their governments.


Free trade agreements - nearly always exempt from military spending


Industrialised countries will always be able to subsidise their corporations through defense contracts and grants for weapons research.

IMO, this prison should be shut down if it's half as bad as the article describes, because there is no reason for any human to be treated like that. Rotting in a prison like this, is one of them.

He's lucky he wasn't shot. (Or worse.) Plotting to violently overthrow a government is a traitorous offense. And this episode is hardly his first. His connections spared him from the fate most of us would have suffered. In other words, he got off light.
