Iran calls Arab world to 'unite and resist'
Tehran - Iran's supreme leader on Monday called for Islamic unity in the face of repressive American power, accusing it of seeking total domination of the Middle East.

"Today the Arab world must unite to resist everywhere and by all means repressive American power," Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said.

"American power is attacking the Islamic world under the pretext of fighting terrorism and using slogans like liberty and democracy (but) drags the people of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine through blood," Khamenei was quoted as saying by the official IRNA agency.

2. This is bad.
Khamenei was a moderate. We probably could have worked with him to defuse the situation in Iran. He may have simple political reasons for saying this, but if we're offending the moderates, we're in deep trouble.

14. Normally the adjective used for him is 'conservative'
rather than 'moderate'. He tends to resist the 'reform' Iranian politicians.

BBC profile of Khamenei

He's never been pro USA, certainly; but the phrase "resist everywhere and by all means repressive American power" does sound a bit ominous.

5. This guy was a moderate?
Yikes! Sounds like we pushed him over to Osama's side.

Unfortunately, this was entirely predictable, ie, that moderates in the region would be screwed by our blatant imperialism and end up radicalized.

9. Iran is not part of the Arab world according to my Jordanian friend...
He said the Arab world is from Morocco to Iraq. Iran is Persian and has a different language.

Not that it matters, just that I found it interesting.

13. That's correct
But Khamenei seems to be addressing the Arab world to unify with all Muslims.

We have a religious war on our hands.

16. Ugh
So Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, & what's left of Iraq hate the US.

Pakistan is on a brink of regime change, pretty much at the drop of a hat, Turkey is pissed @ us, and the rest of the middle east is scrambling to figure out where they will align their future.

The Russians have called for the right for preemptive attack, as has North Korea.

Smells like a world war.

Just never thought America would start it. :(
