US Arabs, Muslims victims of bigotry

Muslim and Arab Americans are being made victims in their own country by America's use of racial profiling.

A new report published by Amnesty International USA on Monday, found racial profiling by US law enforcement agencies has grown over the past three years to cover one in nine Americans.

According to Amnesty, people of Middle Eastern or south Asian descent and those of the Muslim and Sikh faiths are most at risk, especially since the 11 September attacks.

The study reports 32 million Americans have been subjected to profiling, defined as the targeting of people because of their ethnic or religious background.

2. I was the victim of profiling on one occasion two years ago.

The cop saw me walking down the street, noticed my darker shade of skin, black hair and dark moustache, and pulled over and started harrassing me. This was in early 2002 though, only a few months after 9/11.
