REPORTER'S 2ND SUBPOENA IN C.I.A. CASE
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Published: September 16, 2004

REPORTER'S 2ND SUBPOENA IN C.I.A. CASE A Time magazine reporter, Matthew Cooper, was subpoenaed Tuesday for a second time in an inquiry into the disclosure of the identity of Valerie Plame, a covert C.I.A. officer. After Mr. Cooper was ordered jailed last month for failing to name his sources, he gave testimony limited to his contacts with I. Lewis Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, and the court withdrew its order. Time said Mr. Cooper testified with Mr. Libby's consent. The new subpoena apparently concerns information from other officials. Yesterday a Washington Post reporter, Walter Pincus, also testified. Mr. Pincus said he would not identify an official who discussed Ms. Plame's identity with him in July 2003, but agreed to recount the substance of his conversation with the official.

1. progress
Is this a normal timeframe for grand jury proceedings? Seems like this has gone on a long time.

3. Years from now

I will remember this time as a moment in history when we discovered that the Government spent a majority of it's time investigating itself, and that wasn't necessarily a great thing for Democracy.

This story boils down to: are the Justice Department Officials partisan, or are they going to have what it takes to out War Criminals.

And if they do have what it takes, will the media report on it or will they tell us all about what great guys these war criminals are, with smiles on their faces as they spit out the daily talking points.

Journalism is dead, economy is dying, we're in a quagmire in Iraq, we're less safe around the world, we're helping destroy the environment, Social Security is evaporating, Medicare is becoming more expensive (as fun as Vegas if we get to privatize), we're allowing more assault weapons into our streets when we can't even stop those with weapons of mass destruction, crimes are up, people are losing their jobs, or being outsourced, or being forced to compete with their children for lower paying jobs, we're ok with talking about what happens to Martha Stewart, but we'll never ask Bush to be accountable for anything - at all. Ever.

This is an America I want around for the next four years.

Wahoo.
