Hurricane Jeanne May Head Back Toward U.S.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=13&u=/ap/20040922/ap_on_re_us/tropical_weather_10

MIAMI - Deadly Hurricane Jeanne could head back toward the United States and threaten the storm-battered Southeast coast, including Florida, as early as this weekend, forecasters said Wednesday.

It was too soon to tell where or if Jeanne would hit, but forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (news - web sites) in Miami warned residents from Florida to Maryland to watch the storm with 90 mph top sustained winds.

Some computer models had Jeanne curving out to sea and missing land, but others had it hitting the United States on Saturday or Sunday, forecasters said.

Jeanne was blamed for more than 700 deaths in Haiti, where it hit over the weekend as a tropical storm and caused flooding. It had been moving out to sea, but it appeared to be looping back toward land, forecasters said.

1. weird.
It seems that we're a magnet for bad weather and storms out there. Especially Florida.

2. We're having amazingly wonderful weather in Michigan this month
Today, like yesterday and the day before, is sunny with a high in the low 80s. Last weekend was absolutely perfect-sunny, 70s each day. If we hadn't gotten so much rain earlier this year, I'd be concerned about a drought.

We're a blue state, so maybe God isn't so pissed off at us.

4. Jeanne Threatens Central Florida Shores
Hurricane Jeanne is continuing to gain strength and forecasters now say it's a threat to U.S. shores, including hard-hit Central Florida. <...>

Top sustained winds are up to 100 mph, with a slow increase considered possible.

As with Hurricane Ivan last week, forecasters are waiting to see just when Jeanne is going to make a more northwest and northerly turn. Most models forecast a path toward Central Florida, while others show it turning farther north.

For now, the center of the official forecast track brings Jeanne to land in Central Florida late in the weekend. But that could be adjusted as time goes on.

6. The really crazy thing is Ivan
It's back in the Gulf and threatening Texas. As Johnny Carson would say, "Weird, wacky stuff."
