One of Two Iraqi Female Prisoners May Be Freed

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - One of two Iraqi female scientists in U.S. detention could be released on Wednesday, a senior Justice Ministry official said, in a move that may raise hopes for the release of a British hostage.

The official, who asked not to be named, said that Rihab Taha, a biological weapons scientist dubbed ``Dr Germ'' by U.S. soldiers, could be freed as part of a review of her detention.``It is possible, God willing. Her case has been under review,'' he said.

Militants who kidnapped two Americans and a Briton in Baghdad last week have killed two of them after their demands for female prisoners to be released from Iraqi jails were not met. The third hostage, Briton Kenneth Bigley, is believed to be still alive.

Britain's Guardian newspaper reported on Wednesday that Iraq's justice minister said the cases of Taha and a second female scientist, Huda Ammash, were being reviewed, but it had nothing to do with the hostage situation.

6. I just read a thing on women in Iraq jails but do not recall where.
They really have a hard time and it said the people in Iraq always believe they have been raped which means they may as well be dead. And they think they may be killed by their family. I wish I could recall where it was. I am not sure I believed it.

23. I think Amnesty Int'l and Red Cross have made mention of this somewhere
I also remember reading references to it in some German and Swedish newspaper/newsmagazine references....months ago...

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually think the Bush administration does not care about those Americans who were beheaded...in fact, I believe that they consider "helpful" to their campaign and hoping to gather more support....sick....

They could have released these women, yet didn't come forward till now that they even were in custody....

How many more? I have no faith in this administration....none....

3. they wait until 2 Americans get their heads cut off
Ya know, Bush sat with that Allawi Character yesterday, after the UN speech, shaking hands, bumbling questions....

Are we supposed to believe that Allawi didn't warn Bush this was going to happen, or Allawi's aids warning Bush's Aids that this was going to happen.

My Deepest sympathy for the families of those to CIVILIANS who were kidnapped after an AMERICAN TRAINED IRAQI GUARD didn't show up for duty to guard these guys...

Oh man == I am so == so mad.

Here is the BBC Report if anyone cares to compare notes, I feel like going outside right now and Punching something.

18. Nah. It's not "giving in" when you wait till after
the threat has been carried out, don't ya see? It's like when Caligula pulled all the US troops out of Saudi Arabia - he waited until after the 9/11 attacks, then pulled them out. See? It's not giving in if you let the hostages die first - at least that's how they seem to think. :silly:

7. One of Two Iraqi Female Prisoners May Be Freed
The family has begged the Blair to give in to the militants' demands. And, there is big fear by Blair that he will be forced by public opinion to bring the troops home if this Brit is killed. So it seems as if Blair was forced to lean on the Iraqi government hard to get them to release one Iraqi prisoner "Dr Germ". However, it was a mistake to give them an inch, because regardless Zarqawi's is such a monster he will probably end up making this murder the worst of all if that is possible.

What is pissing me off is that anyone or any nation (the British in particular) would let themselves be swayed by the actions of this monster. I chose to let my negative opinion on the situation on the ground determine my view of Iraq and not the in your face actions of a total monster. It doesn't take more then five people with a video camera to be able to round up a couple hostages and kill them horribly on film.

Being weak in the knees about this shit only makes it more likely they will do it again, and up the horror factor. It also makes it much more likely that Al-Qaeda will start taking more US and UK hostages in Saudia Arabia or other Middle Eastern nations, perhaps next time it will be the children of vacationers in Egypt.

You simply don't give into these kind of demands.

9. Ah what a great idea
let the terrorists win again.

That's the ticket W, way to go.

Let's show them that strong leadership, that never faulters, that never changes, unless of course you're in political hot water and need to get an item of the front page. Then give the terrorists anything they want, that will send a real good message.

11. She served the purpose
Remember all of the dire TV news reports of the biological weapons "Dr. Germ" was developing to use against us? They showed clip after clip of this "madwoman" meeting with Hussein and his military advisors.

It was just an honest mistake.

I was waiting for this. And here's who
the Resistance wants released.

Late last year, (Izzat Ibrahim) al-Douri's wife and daughter
were detained. Earlier this year, U.S. forces
conducted numerous raids in and around the northern city
of Samarra searching for him.

22. I hope the families of the two beheaded Americans realize that their own
government is lying - lying about the security situation over there, why there family members were over there and that they do indeed have Women in Prisons being detaineed (call them detainees, insurgents, prisoners, suspects, persons of interest, enemy combatants etc.) but that for our government to knowingly have Women being held and that they could have possibly saved the lives of these two Americans.

Like everything else from this administration, all lies, no credibility.

:grr:

21. Kinda like "People of Interest" versus "Suspects"
One has to use the right words.....

or how about "Enemy Combatants" instead, and then they can be detainees that are "People of Interest" and "Suspects", who can all be held, incommunicado without any rights or charges, but they aren't "Prisoners".....:eyes:

Pay attention America....this may be a glimpse into their vision of democracy here in America for the future....

:scared:
