New U.N. Plan for Iraq Meets Resistance
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030825/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_iraq&cid=542&ncid=1480

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is encountering resistance to a new U.N. Security Council resolution to encourage additional countries to send troops to Iraq, officials said Monday.

Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage told reporters it is not clear whether the United States will pursue a new resolution.

"We have not yet made a determination," Armitage told reporters after a meeting with Azerbaijan Prime Minister Ilham Aliyev.

Other officials, asking not to be identified, acknowledged that the opposition is not surprising given the strong stand against the U.S. decision to go to war with Iraq in March without the council's blessing.

1. Good lord these people are stupid!
They really expected France, Germany, etc to send troops? I don't get it. Anybody with an ounce of common sense and the ability to read a newspaper would be able to tell what the result of Powell's latest UN foray would be. Kinda makes me wonder if this isn't part of a plan, but I just don't see any advantage they get out of this...except MAYBE to portray the UN and France (of course) as big ol' meanies.

Hmmm....

Hey Armitage, you've been so sure of the 'rightness' of your decisions so far, you (and the rest of the mis*administration) might want to do a little soul-searching

3. I can't believe
how bossy Washington is.

France's deputy UN ambassador, Michel Duclos:
"Sharing the burden and responsibilities in a world of equal and sovereign nations means also sharing information and authority."

I can't argue with that!

4. UN and US
Why should these nations spend their money and lives for our massive destruction of this nation? Our country (Rummy, that is) keeps insisting that we do not need anymore troops over there. So why should the nations that said let the inspections continue help now?
