Swift Boat Group Has Raised $6.7 Million From 53,000 Donors
Its third ad, which it takes national, attacks Kerry as discarding combat medals.

By Lisa Getter, Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON — Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the conservative group that has attacked Democratic presidential nominee Sen. John F. Kerry's Vietnam record, has raised $6.7 million from more than 53,000 donors in recent weeks, the group said Friday.

Among those contributing were the wealthy Texas brothers who helped finance controversial ads against Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) when he ran against President Bush in the 2000 primary, a former member of Congress and a Los Angeles television producer.

We have major donors and moderate-level donors," spokesman Michael Russell said, adding that the group received $182,405 from 2,681 donors on just one day this week. "It's pretty clear we are getting our message out."

but the people in the battleground states will be affected by what is reported about the national polls.

3. God help us. The neo-fascist evil-doers are on our front steps.
They are in love with the CIC who believes himself appointed by God.

These are truly challenging times for, not only Americans, but also for humanity.

Here we go,...again.

It's tiring,...but the human spirit is inspiring.

Our courage will prevail.

18. Bush doesn't need to expand his base
He only has to get people to hate Kerry. He's been successful so far. That's how elections are won. EOM

"They" are being rolled over,...by "the people", for "the people" and of "the people".

Power-mongering shallow depth types,...BEWARE *smile*. Humanity is THE "equalizer",...in spite of your cynical dark souls.

21. And thank God for that.
However, the fact that so many are willing to give so much money for this indicates that Bush&al believe that this strategy will be worth it - I think because by being first with the smear, and continuing them levels the playing field prior to the big scandals that are breaking (Kelly, Rather, Hersh etc.) Now the impression is going to be <i>"I would have to say both sides are equally guilty of dirty politics in this"</i> and that, my fellow DUers, is priceless to Rove.

25. Yes,
and no one'll be interested in who threw the first punch, they'll just see who they perceive is the latest, that is the Dems re the Killian memos. And they'll walk away thinking the dems are fighing dirty. When in reality, they should be concentrating on the right hooks the repubs are punching everyone but the rich with - the economy, health care, education, Iraq, cutting of veterans' benefits, I could go on and on. It's very disencouraging.

26. this is why AWOL matters
the people seeing these ads need to understand that the attacks are coming from someone who got special treatment, something that Kerry could have gotten but chose not to.
