Mitsubishi Will Cut 1,200 Workers At Illinois Plant (Layoff Update)
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. said Thursday that it will end second-shift production at its factory in Normal, Ill., its only U.S. plant, next week and lay off about 1,200 workers a week later as it battles plunging sales and mounting debt.

Plans to cut more than a third of the plant's work force were announced this summer as part of the Japanese automaker's efforts to deal with a debt of $6 billion.

Single-shift production will begin Oct. 4, but Mitsubishi has yet to determine who among the plant's 3,150 employees will lose their jobs, spokesman Dan Irvin said.

EDIT

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., the nation's No. 2 tiremaker, will cut 129 jobs and stop producing inner tubes at its factory in Clarksdale, Miss., because of falling demand. Cooper, based in Findlay, Ohio, said the cuts will result in expenses of $7 million in the third quarter."

2. The Mitsu automobile division is hurting bigtime.
And Daimler/Chrysler is cutting them loose.

Guess it's sink or swim.

5. mitsu killed themselves...
they targetted low-income, bad credit people with 0% financing, for a fairly high-end sports car.

no shit that they're hurting - they targetted people with no money, and a spotty track record paying. total stupidity.

4. Maybe she could mention eBay, too!
After all, if it's good enough for Big Dick, it should be good enough for her!
