Bush: Palestinians will learn from Iraq that reform is possible
By Reuters and Haaretz Service

.. In a prime-time televised address that concluded the Republican convention and kicked off a two-month race to the November 2 election, Bush also said that the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq could inspire Palestinians to believe that democracy is possible, and referred to Israel as ?our good friend.?

?As the citizens of Afghanistan, Iraq seize the moment, their example will set a message of hope throughout a vital region. Palestinians will hear the message that democracy and reform are within their reach,? Bush said. ..

8. So Palestine should invade Israel
so we can consider Sharon an 'insurgent'--is that what he means?

9. I didn't see the actual quote!
I have a feeling Haaretz did some 'edit and improvise'. Nevertheless, he did praise his handywork in Iraq. Guess he hasn't heard of Sadr City.

10. 'Reform' is easy in a pile of bombed-out rubble !
Perhaps that's what George is offering the Palestinians, but they may have to wait for their delivery of 'weapons of mass destruction'. IRAN IS NEXT ON HIS LIST!!!:nuke:

12. Hmm...
... this is proof positive that Bush is back to boozing and snorting again. Saying Israel is "our good friend" is sure to make the Palestinians believe that there's no hope of any international intervention, no hope of limiting the continuining encroachment of settlements, which will certainly further the current intifada.

Accept whatever the US and Israel demand, and all will be well?

This might be the most publicly definitive proof of the Bush administration's failure (or refusal) to understand the roots of terrorism, with great implications for how things will go in Iraq and Afghanistan (and in the US) in the future. *sigh*

16. heh...
that was the LOL moment of the speech for me...

what could be more absurd than holding up Iraq or Afghanistan as a model for the Palestinians to follow?

they're both headed for either:
a. strongman rule
or
b. another islamic theocracy
