Concerts to Honor Slain Reporter Pearl
LOS ANGELES -- The second annual Daniel Pearl Music Day will take place in October to encourage worldwide harmony in memory of the slain Wall Street Journal reporter.

The international series of concerts will be organized around what would have been Pearl's 40th birthday Oct. 10, according to a statement from the Daniel Pearl Foundation.

The inaugural music day last year included more than 100 concerts in 18 countries.

"We have a unique opportunity to promote a message of tolerance and the spirit of peace on Daniel Pearl Music Day," said jazz musician and composer Herbie Hancock. "I encourage other musicians around the world to join me in this message of harmony and understanding through music."

2. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Khephra...
I can't believe I was completely ignorant of this Foundation! But, I was.

Because of you, I just joined the Foundation and registered for the e-mail newsletter as well.

It just tore me up when I heard they made him say "My Mother is a Jew, My Father is a Jew, I am a Jew" and then beheaded him.

about time for the anniversary" of the first Daniel Pearl music Day.

I knew him and his family, worked with his mother, when I lived in Los Angeles in the '70's. Wonderful people, wonderful family, and Daniel was truly a special person. I recently reread the book of his writings "At Home in the World" and enjoyed his gift of writing all over again.

It's so sad to think of what he, his wife, his parents, and his sisters have been through. He was a truly GOOD person and the world needs more people likehim.

Daniel, Rest In Peace.

5. Where are the concerts for dead Iraqi civillians, huh?
What about the soldiers who are dying on a daily basis? Where are their concerts?

What a load of shit this is! The guy was a shill for the right-wing press that wanted this god-forsaken war and occupation. He supported the war and gets all these fucking tributes while a girl gets run over by a bulldozer in Isreal and you don't hear a thing about it.

Wake up to the hypocrisy!!!!

6. No, he didn't support the war. He was there trying to bring some
knowledge, understanding, and perspective to us.

The WSJ editorial pages are right-wing, but the rest of the paper is not. Daniel worked on feature articles about average people in the world and how they were impacted by various events.

To say that Daniel was pro-war is about the same as saying that Gandhi was pro-violence.

The Pearls, and especially Danny, have worked very hard for various peace-making efforts for many years. They understand that war and violence does not bring peace and have worked hard to prevent them. They were especially interested in peace in the Middle East because his parents are from there, actually his mother is from an Iraqi Jewish family who emigrated to Israel when she was about 10 or so.

Danny loved music and his family has chosen to promote music events around the world to try to bring people together and develop tolerance and understanding. I salute that.
