20 die in Russian copter smash - governor and top aides on board

Rescuers found the wreckage of a helicopter which went missing in Russia's far eastern Kamchatka peninsula, with a regional governor and his top aides on board, local officials in the emergency situations ministry said on Saturday.

There were no survivors among the 16 or 17 passengers and three crew, whose bodies were all still trapped in the wreckage, they said.

The Mi-8 chopper was found in dense vegetation, near the Apachan River, 115km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the peninsula's capital, from which it had taken off on Wednesday.
