U.S. airstrike in Fallujah kills 17
A U.S. airstrike late Wednesday targeted a suspected safehouse in Fallujah used by followers of Jordanian militant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, U.S. officials said. The attack killed 17 people, including three children, and wounded six, hospital officials and witnesses said.

Witnesses said the strike hit a residence in the southern neighborhood of al-Jubail. People struggled to pull bodies from the rubble, while ambulances and civilian cars took the dead and wounded to the hospital.

Sorry, Salon wants a subscription, but earlier reports only spoke of 9 people killed.

4. an Al Jazeera report....
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 04:49 AM by leftchick
He's Baaack....at least in the minds of the US military. Iraq bogey-man, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, is brought out of mothballs now that al-Sadr is quiet. In the process the US will continue to kill hundreds of innocent Iraqis.
SICKENING....... :puke:

US air raid kills many civilians in Falluja

<snip>
A fresh US air strike on the Iraqi town of Falluja has killed 18 people, including three children, according to local police and medical sources.

Aljazeera has learnt that two houses were destroyed when a US fighter jet fired two missiles late on Wednesday at the town's residential neighbourhood of Jabal, some 65km west of Baghdad.

A local journalist, Abu Bakr al-Dulaimi, said the blasts were so powerful that "bodies were scattered and thrown away about 50 metres from the place of the explosion.

"The US forces always allege that they have targeted houses used by Abu Musab al-Zaqawi while the Fallujans, many times, have denied such allegations which are groundless and false.

"Most casualties were old men and women and children", he added.

6. Terror from the skies.
How many air strikes does that make now? I think it's at least five. The US always "suspect" it's a safe house of al Z. My opinion is that it's a way of telling the people in Falaja that they are defeated and that they will be killed off like this for a long time. The "hearts and minds" agenda is off the the table.

16. ah, the old nuremburg defense- thought "chust followink orters" was...
...discredited decades ago. The truth is, under military rules of engagement, a troop, or pilot in this case, has every right to disobey an illegal order. Killing children qualifies as an illegal order. Killing noncombatants also qualifies as an illegal order.

AFP: US air strike on Fallujah kills 20

<snip>
"All the wounded are families. Among the dead, there could be two or three children but the bodies are torn to pieces and it's difficult to tell," Taha told AFP.

Two giant craters gouged the ground, leaving one house completely destroyed and the second badly damaged. The blast knocked down a few palm trees and smashed up furniture and television could be seen in the wreckage.

The US military confirmed the attack, describing it as a "precision" strike on "safe houses and meeting locations" for associates of the Jordanian-born Zarqawi whom US officials blame for dozens of car bomb attacks in Iraq (news - web sites) and who has a 25-million-dollar bounty on his head.

.....fucking terrorists.... :puke:

9. This war started with a callous air strike...
... if you remember. a so called "decapitation strike" which was supposed to kill Saddam. No one knows how many civillians were killed in that strike.

The US Military always refers to them as "precision strikes" or "surgical strikes". They also conveniently "don't do civilian body counts". Sounds like terrorism to me....

12. US can't get into Fallujah, Resistance kills Chinooks, Apaches, humvees
So these are revenge strikes.

What would happen if Resistance used chemical weapons,
say, on Balad, and the US sustained at least
6 Black Hawks worth of casualties.

What would the Pentagon do about it?

And I know jihadunspun has vociferous critics here.
I would like for those critics to give me alt info sites,
you know, something besides: Marine killed doing
security and stability ops, or marine killed when his
humvee crashes into a tank. Thanx
