Minnesota National Guardsman dies during training

MINNEAPOLIS - A Minnesota Army National Guardsman died after collapsing during physical training at Fort McCoy, Wis., National Guard officials announced Sunday.

Sgt. Robert Pylkka, 43, of Evelyth, died Saturday while doing a physical training exercise. He was taken to Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in Sparta, Wis., where he was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m.

The exact cause of his death was still being determined on Sunday, the National Guard said. ..

Pylkka, a married father of two, began his military career with the U.S. Coast Guard in 1987 and joined the Minnesota Army National Guard in 2001. ..
