Paranoia stalks Bush rally
Guardian Newspapers Limited

Never mind the police searches, traffic jams, low-flying helicopters and closed bridges. This week New York's biggest challenge seems to be hysteria.

Delegates to the Republican convention, which begins in Madison Square Garden on Monday, will face opponents releasing swarms of mice, posing as volunteers to send old ladies in the wrong direction and hiring sex workers with Aids to seduce them, according to a columnist on the New Hampshire Sunday News, Bernadette Malone.

Meanwhile Rupert Murdoch's New York Post is warning that "people trained in kidnapping techniques, bombmaking and improvised munitions" will orchestrate operations.

It adds: "A number of extremists with ties to the 1970s radical Weather Underground are preparing to wreak havoc." ..

From the NYC Indymedia homepage:
  • 11:08PM Police are now reporting at least 250 cyclists arrested.

  • 11:03PM The show at St. Mark's Church is starting up. There is reportedly a band starting up and a crowd of people in the church courtyard. The buses carrying arrestees and many but not all police have withdrawn from the area.

  • 10:57PM IMC reporters near St. Mark's Church on 2nd Ave. report police loading arrestees into buses and clearing the streets.

  • 10:45PM Police report at least 54 arrests.

2. Stupid, pampered white people
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 09:56 PM by bluestateguy
These people are such cowards and chickenhawks once they leave the comfort of their Stepford Suburbia. They wouldn't last 15 minutes in an inner city.

And the Weathermen? They are almost all either dead or in jail. Jeez.

29. the Weatherman
>And the Weatherman? They are almost all either dead or in jail. >Jeez.

not quite. At least two of them are alive and well and work in Chicago. In fact, Bernardine Dohrn teaches at Northwestern last I heard and runs a legal aid clinic for disenfranchised women and children. She and her husband, Bill Ayers, also a former Weatherman leader, have kids and live in Hyde Park.

Other former Weatherman members are scattered around the country, including NYC.

I believe only one of the former Weather Underground is serving jail time. And it's for a botched bank robbery undertaken while with a fringe group. and dead...I'm not sure. There is an interesting documentary called "The Weather Underground" available at your local blockbuster that would dispel your statement.

At least a few former Weatherman members work hard for peace and justice--within the bounds of the law.

Bernadette Malone:
NYC errs in playing nice with protesters
By BERNADETTE MALONE

<blah blah blah>

"Protestors are complaining already that the FBI is visiting them and sowing intimidation. Who cares? As long as they’re not planning to break the law, protestors should have no reason to fear inquiries from law enforcement officials."

<more>

So let me get this straight - FBI intimidation with guns, etc - Good.
Protesters with mice? - Lock 'em up!!!
(The Weather Underground has come down to mice?)

I don't write 'em folks, I just read 'em.

Bernadette can come out to West Texas anytime she wants to hear someone express themselves clearly. And I promise I won't use mice.
