Bush Campaign Lawyer Is Advising Swift Boat Group
Bush Campaign Lawyer Is Advising Swift Boat Group, AP Reports

Aug. 24 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush's re- election campaign lawyer said he is giving legal advice to the veterans group that is challenging Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's account of his service in the Vietnam War, the Associated Press reported.

Benjamin Ginsberg said he agreed to provide legal service to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth when asked to advise the group about a law related to the First Amendment, the wire service reported.
Ginsberg, who said he hadn't decided whether to charge the group for his work, didn't tell the Bush campaign what he discussed with the group, AP said, citing Ginsberg.

2. Wonder who caught him.
A lawyer, especially from the BFEE, wouldn't cop to this unless there's something bigger coming around the corner.

9. I BEG YOUR PARDON: "LITTLE FREAK?" BULLSHIT.
I know Ben Ginsberg. Not well, but we are nodding acquaintances and have had brief conversations about incidental things. He's a partner in the law firm that employs me. We work on the same floor. His secretary is one of my best friends there (and she too is a Republican). His visitors have to pass directly by my liberal-propaganda-laden work space whenever they go to see him. I like Ben, his politics notwithstanding.

Ben Ginsberg is a human being, grasswire. Just like YOU. You may not like his politics -- hell, I loathe the man's politics and I'll never understand how ANYONE, let alone a guy I know and like, can support Bush. But god dammit, he is still a human being, one that I know and like.

I can separate politics from the individual, if I know the individual. I don't know why I can do this. Many DUers can't or won't. That's fine. I don't think it's a fabulous ability to have and I also don't think you're screwed if you DON'T have it.

But god dammit, grasswire, Ben isn't a "little freak." This statement is BULLSHIT. He's a man whose politics and whose work for BC we all despise. Blast the administration all you want. Blast Ben all you want for the work he does. But don't fucking get personal about a man whom I know is not some freak.

14. They Are? I Believe ALL REPUBLICANS Are INhuman Evil Bastards
None have any redeeming qualities whatsoever. They are human trash. Vermin. Foul. Beneath contempt. If I could wave a magic wand and make them all disapppear, I would. The whole world would be MUCH better off without them. (And FOX news would go off the air.)

24. We should not fight
We should agree that we disagree on the truth of the statement of this guy being a freak. However, DU regulars should not allow it to become a fighting point, not now, we need to stay focused on smoking the coward bush out of hiding. Can anyone remember what happened when Hatfield wrote a book back in 2000 that claimed bush was arrested for drug use? The book was banned the author destroyed and he killed himself, now we have a group of liars and the media treats them like a reputable source, even though most has already been debunked. Once again, I repeat, we must keep the pressure on, we must taunt the bush team to force the Coward bush to face America with a full disclosure of what he actually did during his Vietnam War era days. It's a matter of character, bush has a pattern of saying one thing and having others do something different totally different - he must be smoked out of hiding and stand up like a man.

18. I dunno, Bertha
There are lots of ways to make an honest living as a lawyer. Providing free legal counsel to a gang of politically motivated liars doesn't seem to be one of them. I don't know Mr. Ginsberg. Maybe he buys toys for disadvantaged toddlers every Christmas or Hannukah. Maybe he supplies personal items and toiletries to a battered women's shelter. That would be very nice of him.

But the people he represents and the causes he endorses make sure that there's a steady supply of disadvantaged toddlers, battered women and a whole host of other ills in our society, all for the financial benefit of an overwealthy few. And I don't know what mental gymnastics he performs, if any, to justify that to himself. I know that I can't do that for myself, and I can't work for people who do that, no matter how likable they are. I hope your presence has an effect on Mr. Ginsberg.

23. well, you see.....
...it's like this.

I watched Ginsberg on the television nearly every day during the attempted coup on Bill Clinton.

I heard him tell lies -- lies designed to remove a popular president from office against the expressed will of the American people. That's anti-democratic and anti-American.

Then I saw him work in another coup attempt -- successful this time -- in the post-election period in 2000. He was a primary strategist in the endeavor that allows Bush to occupy the White House through deceit, cronyism, the quashing of lawful votes, racialism, the twisting of the formerly immutable rule of law, the tainting of the judiciary for partisan gain. It was a coup.

Now he's involved again in despicable activities.

Perhaps you are misunderstanding my meaning when I say "freak." (Aside from the fact that his glowering face frightened children in my home when he appeared on television.)

I believe it is "freakish" to live in America and enjoy all its benefits but work to kill democratic processes and liberties. I believe it's freakish to foist a weak and flawed man into power against the will of the people.

Look. Ginsberg may smile and nod at you now, but he would just be thrilled to shred your flesh with his little teeth if you stood between Bush and power. His manners have nothing to do with the truth of how much he despises the concept of America and its bedrock principles as the beacon of liberty for mankind.

There is a word for people who get along with monsters in totalitarian societies. So don't be lecturing me. It IS personal.

...will it take 'till the FEC busts these bastards?

If we happen to survive this regime with our civil liberties intact, I suggest that we storm whatever rathole the FEC inhabits with some Henry's roof patch and a few goose down pillows from Bed, Bath & Beyond.

22. BC04 Spin:
We had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with this lawyer's outside consulting!

Translation: please believe us! Our hotshot lawyer is not a consigliere but really just a rube who fell into this easily avoidable trap. Sound implausible? Relax, we'll just repeat it one hundred more times and you'll bite.
