Soldier Killed in Convoy Blast in Iraq (Mosul)
MOSUL, Iraq - A roadside bomb detonated near a U.S. military convoy on Sunday outside the northern city of Mosul, killing one U.S. soldier and wounding another, the military said. Two Iraqi children were injured in the blast, said Dr. Mohammed Ahmed of al-Jumhuri hospital.

The bomb exploded as the convoy passed a road west of Mosul, 225 miles northwest of Baghdad, said Capt. Angela Bowman, a U.S. military spokeswoman in Mosul.

The soldiers that were killed and wounded were assigned to Task Force Olympia. The wounded soldier was in stable condition, the military said. The names of the soldiers were being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

In a separate attack, gunmen opened fire on a car, killing an Indonesian citizen and injuring a Filipino, hospital officials said. Two Iraqis, the car's driver and a bodyguard, were also killed in the attack, Dr. Dhia Taha said.

Insurgents have routinely attacked U.S. troops and foreigners involved in reconstruction projects.

1. That's FIVE US troops killed today
(including 4 Marines killed in "separate incidents" in al-Anbar Province).

Absolutely, heart-rendingly, sickening.

3. I am so sorry for all of the lives lost
because of the lies of this mal-administration.

I guess we are going to continue to see such "progress" in the surging numbers of deaths. :(

4. This is bizarre
Do you notice that there are very few casualties coming out of Najaf, where we have this huge campaign going on? I have a theory. I'm not even saying that I believe it to be true, merely that I'm speculating on it. Say that when those huge battles were being fought in Najaf we had 30 or 40 soldiers killed. Bushco would do anything to keep this out of the press, because that would surely create headlines. So they cover it up and then release the statistics in 2 or 3 increments at a time in the subsequent weeks. Sound plausible? I don't know. I just don't understand how we can have more casualties after the heavy fighting has subsided then during it.

5. Probably not as bizarre as you think
I would think that in the hotspots that there have been many, many soldiers killed. We don't know, the eyes and ears have been shut off. I have a deep suspicion of bodies in refrigerators stacked like cordwood, especially soldiers with little or no family connections.

7. Shameful..
The shame is that most Americans could give a shit that these soldiers are dying just because they aren't allowed to see it on the TV or in newspapers. Where are the legitimate journalists out there?
