Republican party scene: light on stars, heavy on fancy venues (AP)
By DEEPTI HAJELA Associated Press Writer

he Republicans will have one sure Hollywood star for their convention - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger - along with performers to keep the country music fans happy. But they'll be hard- pressed to match the Democratic convention's appeal to young voters led by Ben Affleck.

Still, the party's parties promise some flash, making use of the city's many venues: Tavern on the Green. The Rainbow Room. Broadway. Hammersmith Ballroom. ..

Those looking to do serious star-gawking might be better off looking elsewhere, perhaps among those protesting and reacting to the presence of Republicans in the Big Apple. Performances and readings have been scheduled by Margaret Cho, Eve Ensler, Alec Baldwin, Kathleen Turner, Joanne Woodward, Lou Reed, Moby, Joan Osborne, John Sayles and Robert Altman.

1. After the DNC, Bush reminded America...
that you'll find the heartland right here in Ohio (can't remember the exact state) - not in Hollywood. The RNC would be flip-flopping if they had too many stars.

Although, the heart of America is not found at the Tavern on the Green, Rainbow Room, or on Broadway.

13. Alice Cooper
I recently saw a thread on FR that Alice Cooper is a staunch Republican. He supposedly is friendly with John McCain and often attends basketball games with him. He recently did an interview where he criticized rockers who make political statements saying (paraphrasing) that it's contrary to what rock is supposed to be about. Also said anyone who looks to rock musicians for political advice is nutty (again, paraphrasing).

Jessica Simpson is said to be conservative.

4. I'm sure Johnny Cash would NOT be happy that Sotheby's leased his display
out to a bunch of GOPers. He and almost his entire family LOATHED everything about the BushInc. wing of the Republican party.

a Repuke, either. While it's not proof of anything, all three of the stars of Mystic River are definitely Democrats--Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon. I don't see Eastwood working with that group and being a Repub.
