BAGHDAD, Aug 20 (AFP) - Two US soldiers were killed and another three wounded Friday when their patrol was attacked near the restive Sunni Muslim bastion of Samarra, north of Baghdad, a US military spokesman said.

"The US patrol was attacked by an improvised explosive device at around 5:55 pm (13:55 GMT) near Samarra killing one soldier instantly, while the other succumbed to wounds later," the spokesman said.

6. Samarra

this will just confuse the world, particularly US/UK press, that have been conditioned to kick into "Sunni Triangle" at such a time, but Sadr(HA)'s Jaysh al-Mahdi now has a division formed up there as well, along with Arab & Turkmen members in Kirkuk's province. It has up to now been primarily Arab Nationalist with a touch of Salafi influences, but this just adds to the matter.
