AP Survey: Delegates stand behind Cheney

Many Republican Party stalwarts from Arizona rejected a hypothetical scenario in which Vice President Dick Cheney won't appear on the GOP ticket in November. ..

Fifty-two percent of delegates who were questioned said they had no preference for a Cheney replacement. Most explained that Bush wouldn't change running mates.

Twenty-three percent chose McCain, followed by U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona at 8 percent and National Security Director Condoleeza Rice at 4 percent. ..

The survey was completed by 92 percent of Arizona's 52 delegates to the Republican National Convention, which begins Aug. 30 in New York. ..
