Bush: 'I know what I'm doing' on war
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (AP) -- President Bush on Wednesday pushed back against John Kerry's criticism of his handling of Iraq, saying, "I know what I'm doing when it comes to winning this war."

Bush used an re-election rally to sharply reject Democratic challenger John Kerry's proposal to begin to withdraw troops from Iraq within six months of taking office.

"We all want the mission to be completed as quickly as possible. But we want the mission completed," the president said. "The mission is not going to be completed as quickly as possible if the enemy thinks we will be removing a substantial number of troops in six months."

1. Mission Unaccomplished
Maybe when the mission is completed Kerry could jump onto an aircraft carrier, wearing a flight suit ...

5. Saw a bumper sticker in a parking lot today..
'Mission Accomplished', with the word 'Mission' crossed out and the word 'Nothing' written over it.

How sad, and how true.

58. Missions in Texas History....
The missions of San Antonio are famous historical sites, still active parishes and well worth a visit. There are even older missions near El Paso. But among the lost missions of Texas, the Mission at San Sabá is most interesting.

In 1785, a relative of one of the Franciscans who died at San Sabá commissioned a mural illustrating the results of trying to missionize the Comanches. A few years ago, the mural's ownership was subject to a legal dispute. Houston's Museum of Fine Arts offered a secure, climate controlled environment until the case was settled. Therefore, Houston had a good chance to see the first painting, ever, to depict an event in Texas History.

The full mural & lots of info:

10. Winning this war? WINNING this war??

What about "Mission Accomplished?" What about "end of hostilities"? What about "sovereignity"?

If Chimpy is now talking about still having to win his war, then he's admitting he has badly, BADLY mishandled the situation thus far.

Truth to everyone here, of course, but still.. What an idiot!

19. Good Heavens!! The fact that he even has to SAY that...
...speaks volumes about his ineptness. IF he knew what he was doing, there would be NO NEED to make that statement outright. His policies would speak for themselves. And, they DO. However they are NOT saying that he "knows what he's doing". Quite the contrary...and therein lies the problem and the necessity for his making the claim that he does.

22. I'm disgusted
The president roamed a square about the size of a boxing ring inside an aircraft manufacturer. One jet was left on the plant's floor, its nose pointing straight at Bush. Bush joked that he and McCain, both former fighter pilots, would take the plane out for a spin.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/11/bush.ap/index.html

Dubya seems to have forgotten that he was grounded because he refused to take the physical. Then he went AWOL.

I'm showing great restraint here. You don't want to know what I really think.

Can I introduce you to my wife and mother in law?

Before it was "winning the peace" now its "winning the war."

Off in the distance, I hear a fat lady singing.

Also, reminds me of the old drunk's joke heard often in watering holes of lesser repute, "truuuuuuuust me! I know what I'm doing."

Nobody in their right mind would ever accept such assurances. It's laughable.

39. My God, this idiot is actually using the "Sledge Hammer" line
From an obscure (but laugh-out-loud hilarious) ABC-TV show from the 1980s about a clueless Dirty-Harry-like cop. His catch phrase was, "Trust me. I know what I'm doing," when it was obvious that he didn't have any freaking idea. The series ended with him blowing up the entire west coast in a nuclear explosion.

because we certainly aren't winning anything. Oil flow is to a minimum. No non-arab is safe outside of guarded compounds and bombings continue daily in Baghdad.

Oh yeah, we also now have regular attacks on oil facilities and personnel in Saudi Arabia.

47. Trouble is, the WLF* does know what he's doing!
It all depends on how one defines "winning this war." You see, American troops in Iraq are actually fighting for Halliburton and its related companies. Every bomb the US forces drop creates more rebuilding work for Halliburton, no? And the "rebuilding contracts" were awarded well in advance of the invasion, no?

Then, there's all that lovely oil. It will not be the US who ultimately controls it; that will fall to one or two giant corporations with no loyalty to anyone except bu$h.

"The mission" remains what it has been from Day One: getting unimaginable wealth into a very few hands.

(*WLF = Worthless Little Fuck)

49. Bush knows what he is doing? How can Bushistas disagree?
"I know what I'm doing when it comes to winning this war" -- George W. Bush, 2004-08-11.

This quote does not need any frosting or ornamentation. It can only increase doubt in the minds of the undecided and the wavering Bush base. Bushistas can't deny it.

As an historical aside, doesn't this remind one of Bush's role model, Nixon, and his secret plan in the 1972 campaign to end the war in Vietnam.

If anyone says that GWB is "resolute", give them the quote. This would seem to be a great quote to put on signs and bumper stickers. Slap one on a Bushista car, they gotta love it!
