Davis Goes On The Offensive

POSTED: 4:44 p.m. PDT August 19, 2003
LOS ANGELES -- Gov. Gray Davis, taking a combative stance Tuesday in the first major address since the recall qualified for the statewide ballot, denounced the Oct. 7 vote facing him as a Republican power grab.
edit ...
"For the next seven weeks, my highest priority is to do the job you elected me to do, but make no mistake ... I will fight this recall and the right-wing forces behind it," Davis said.
edit ...
"But this right-wing power grab is something we won't get over. It would do lasting damage to our state, our environment, and the fabric of our democracy," he said.

At least this recall finally got a Democrat to talk about the rethuglican's attempt to subvert our government. I love a good fight.

1. He needs to say the words "right wing" and "bush" every day
Get that into the minds of potential voters. Davis will not go down without a fight!

6. The candidate...
I am working for has already joined that battle, painting his opponent(accurately, I might add...) as a right-wing idealogue and he and his fellow idealogues as living in a fantasyland. He is calling their tax cut mantra what it is, "service cuts", showing what they are doing to education, everything.

Black flag, no quarter, no prisoners.

11. It was a good speech. Except, he DIDN'T mention Ken Lay and Enron!
I was watching CNN (mistakingly thinking they'd cover the speech :eyes:) Anyway, after 5 minutes or so I changed to a local channel covering the speech...which had already started. And, he didn't mention Ken Lay and Enron. :-( Arianna Huffington DID mention this last week when she blasted Arnold...and, his meeting with these dastardly folks in LA in 2001. Why doesn't Gray Davis? Ditto for Cruz Bustamante!

It was a good speech...and, he mentioned the "Republican power grab"..."They can't win legitimately as in Florida in 2000 when they stopped the vote counting...the illegal reapportionment in Colorado and Texas, etc."...even the local commentator suggested he should have made this speech long ago...and, perhaps, he wouldn't be in such a pickle he's in today.

I do hope Davis continues to fight...and, get coverage in the press.

12. Sorry, but he did mention the energy companies
that gouged Californians. And he also mentioned that executives of these companies were going to jail. I don't know for sure whether he mentioned Enron by name, but the implication was pretty obvious.
