Terror Surveillance Author Nabbed
(CBS/AP) The al Qaeda operative who U.S. intelligence officials suspect wrote the surveillance reports on key financial institutions along the East Coast has been captured, reports CBS News Correspondent David Martin.

Abu Eisa al Hindi was one of 12 terror suspects arrested by British police earlier this week. An English speaker, al Hindi is described by U.S. officials as the chief of operations for al Qaeda in Great Britain and perhaps the U.S. as well.

But officials say capturing al Hindi does not mean the threat of an al Qaeda attack here in the U.S. has been eliminated, although there is no question a major part of Osama bin Laden's network is unraveling, reports Martin.

The first break came on July 13 with the arrest in Pakistan of Abu Talha, who served as a communications hub relaying messages from al Qaeda leaders in hiding to operatives in the field. It took two weeks to crack the codes Talha had used to protect the files in his computer but once they were deciphered they provided a treasure trove of intelligence, including the surveillance reports which triggered the alert in U.S. financial districts....cont'd

5. give me a break..

Two weeks to crack the code

Do you think it was the windows password or the BIOS password. Did you guys think about taking the hard drive out? Or are you trying to tell me that this guy used some sort of document cryptology to encode information that was previously described as available on the internet. That's some top secret public information if there ever was any. Makes great novel material.

I said this the other day. Can't they even put enough effort into to lie better. I mean all the war on terror isn't bad enough by itself but to add insult to injury with these lame ass tales is something else.

How I long for the days of old when I just didn't pay attention.

7. WP article contradicts this
The interrogations of Khan and Aruchi then led officials to Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani, who was captured on July 25. Ghailani is a Tanzanian wanted by the United States in connection with the 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. A laptop computer seized with him contained maps and messages, apparently from scouts who had entered some of the targeted locations in the United States.

These documents were produced before the Sept. 11 attacks. U.S. officials have said they included updated information on one building as late as January 2004, but the officials were not certain whether it amounted to new surveillance or whether it was information publicly available.

8. Misrepresentation is a Govt. specialty.
The can fool a lot of the public that is ignorant about puters.
A big push is on the arrest as many "terrorists" as possible now to make it look good for the elections.

9. could be
Also could be CBS or WP are wrong.

Could be someone talking to one of them didn't get the memo.

Could be intentional confusing of the story to discredit the press.
