Ralph Nader to Kerry: 'Call Off Your Dogs'
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader said on Friday that Democrats were using ``dirty tricks'' to keep him off the ballot in key states and demanded that the party's freshly anointed nominee John Kerry ``call off your dogs.''

Nader, unpopular with many Democrats since he ran as a third-party candidate in 2000 and was seen as costing Al Gore the election, also dismissed accusations that he was heavily supported by Republicans.

Nader, speaking at a campaign stop in Los Angeles one day after Kerry accepted the Democratic party nomination, said the senator's ``underlings'' were ``harassing, obstructing and impeding'' his efforts to get on the ballot in all 50 states.

``I say to Sen. John Kerry, call off your dogs,'' Nader said. ``Stop encouraging these dirty tricks or you will be held responsible.''

54. Nader = Dirty Tricks
Everyone knows Nader works for the GOP. I think they have something on him that is so terrible...

Nader knows he could never lead the country, he's not a serious candidate. He just seems to hate democrats and has no scruples about the rest of us, the people who are suffering under the Bush terror dictatorship.

If Nader really cared about democracy and free elections, he would be fighting the corporations who are perpetrating electronic voting without a paper trail.

Or maybe he should just drop out of the race and endorse the Libertarian candidate for preznit

51. Bush=Gore!
There's no difference between the two parties!

And assorted lies of the same sort targetted in swing states, knowing full well that:

1) he was lying and
2) that by spreading said lies he could, and probably would, swing the election to Bush, a man he knew full well would destroy the American economy, respect and civil rights.

Look Darranar, if you let a serial murderer live in your house without contacting the police, you might not be guilty of murder, but you're JUST AS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATHS as the murderer himself.

Ralph Nader knew that his actions could swing the election to Bush, and he did it anyway. Instead of urging his supporters in swing states to go for Gore, and targetting new Green voters in places like Massachessetts or Kansas so he could get the 5% for federal funding, he did just the opposite: lied about Gore in the states that mattered most, while ignoring safe states that a responsible man would have targetted.

New Hampshire and Florida are two states heavily targetted by Nader in 2000, and if he had done the responsible thing in just ONE of those states, Al Gore would be president today.

53. Nader was only a factor in the Bush selection...
let's not forget that Nader couldn't have let Bush win, because Bush didn't win. Gore did, but Bush stole it. Unless you believe that Nader is prescient (a rare gift indeed) you cannot claim that he could have predicted that.

Hundreds of factors could have given Gore the election. If Gore hadn't been such a bad campaigner, if the Republican propaganda machine hadn't broadcast so many lies about him, if the DNC had managed to counter those lies, if Katherine Harris hadn't scrubbed the voter rolls, if Greg Palast had been listened to, if the Supreme Court had chosen differently... all those things could have given Gore the election. Was Nader's decision to run wrong in 2000? Yes. (FWIW, I also think it's wrong now. Of the third party candidates I know of, my preference is probably Cobb, though I do support and intend to keep supporting Kerry.) But is it fair to rest the blame on him for Bush's crimes? No. Bush is the criminal here, Bush and the reprehensible band of criminals he calls his administration.

55. I'm not saying that Nader was the ONLY factor
Just that he both knew what his candidacy could and probably would do, and didn't care; and actively courted Gore voters in crucial states by lying to them rather than acting responsibly and courting left-leaning voters in safe states by TELLING THEM THE TRUTH.

Nader knew that a Bush presidency would be a disaster of incredible proportions, yet he LIED to people and said that Gore would be no different.

He is just as responsible for Bush's presidency as the man who gives safe harbor to a serial murderer is responsible for the deaths of the victims.

7. Dirty Trick #1 -- insisting that Nader comply with the law
Let's see -- the law requires that Nader's campaign obtain a certain number of signatures from registered voters in a particular state in order to get on the ballot, and what do those dirty tricksters in the Democratic Party do? They have the NERVE to insist that Nader submit VALID signatures. My God! Even Nixon wouldn't have gone that far. All he did was try to bug the Democratic national HQ, and then cover up the break-in. But those NASTY Democrats, so rigid in their insistence that the law actually be followed. Just who the HELL do they think they are????

50. Of all the posts to this..
yours is the one that tells all. Dems insisting all sigs be valid are considered 'Kerry's dogs' and accused of dirty tricks. And putting 48,000 people on a 'felon' list who may not be guilty is just 'boys will be boys'? Jamming phone lines at a center that gives rides to voters is just a fraternity prank? A Michigan Repug saying GOP has to "suppress the Detroit vote" is just "misunderstood"?

Hey Ralph,

It won't work this time.

Had you taken the noble path and the high road, you would have had your integrity intact.

Who is going to have any sympathy when you accept republican money and signatures. Do you honestly believe that republicans are really going to vote for you?

You won't be playing the spoiler this time. We will see to it.

This election is just too d@mned important. We aren't going to take any chances.

By the way, we are being responsible. That is why we aren't letting you get away with potentially spoiling another election process.

Anyone see 'Real Time' tonight? Nader was on, and Maher and Michael Moore got down on their knees and begged him to dop out. Then Maher pulled out a picture of O.J. Simpson and said, "I present you with this picture as a reminder of how someone can be a hero for many years, and throw it all away with one mistake."
