Bush Criticizes Kerry's Achievements

Friday July 30, 2004 5:31 PM

By PETE YOST Associated Press Writer

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - President Bush launched his counterattack against John Kerry on Friday, saying his Democratic rival has spent 19 years in the U.S. Senate with ``no signature achievements.''

``My opponent has good intentions, but intentions do not always translate to results,'' Bush told thousands of supporters who repeatedly interrupted his remarks with standing ovations. Over and over, Bush repeated a new refrain: ``Results matter.''

Appearing at a baseball stadium at Southwest Missouri State University, Bush said that during eight years on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Kerry voted to cut the intelligence budget but had no record of reforming America's intelligence-gathering capability. Problems with the intelligence agencies have been blamed for many of the failures surrounding the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Bush also said Kerry has no significant record for reforming education or health care.

The president said that Kerry and running mate John Edwards consistently oppose reforms that limit the power of Washington and leave more power in the hands of the people. <snip>

...except those he was given.

Who does Bonzo think he's kidding?

Kerry has done more in any five-year segment of his life than Bonzo has during his entire life.

4. I can see the Onion Headline -
"Bush criticizes Kerry for not making mistakes"

Today President Bush criticized Senator Kerry saying, "Kerry has never had a failed business, he's never ripped off people to build a baseball stadium or drilled in Texas and come up dry. This is why Kerry would not be a good President." The soon former President said at a fund-raiser today.

as this report from Capitol Hill Blue suggests.

Bush also said Kerry has no significant record for reforming education or health care.
And HIS significant record in these areas is...? I mean, he's reformed them, but has he IMPROVED them?

The president said that Kerry and running mate John Edwards consistently oppose reforms that limit the power of Washington and leave more power in the hands of the people.
Yeah--the people who can afford to show up for his fundraising events.

At any rate, stay the course, Georgie--you're burying yourself magnificently!

13. and bu$hit's achievements include:
Record deficits

Record job-losses (with exception of Hoover)

Occupation of a country that was not a threat to the US in an expensive and demogogic war that has only cost lives and diverted resources from the real terrorists.

Ruination of the environment and gutting of most laws that were put in place to protect it...

Record numbers of people homeless and without healthcare...

We could go on, couldn't we?

Absolutely does not compare to Kerry's record, I agree, but for very different reasons.

14. Cleared up POW/MIA issue with McCain
which led to the normalization of relations with Vietnam.

But that's a diplomatic achievement, and D-I-P-L-O-M-A-C-Y is a term that * doesn't associate with accomplishment.

Then again, comparing Kerry with this human and mental pipsqueak is a joke to begin with.

put aside the absurdity of Bush criticizing ANYONE'S accomplishments...

He's been calling Kerry an extreme, dangerous liberal, the most liberal senator, and now he's calling him well-meaning but unaccomplished. That's a mixed message.

21. The bad news about this thread
is that it appears to bolster what Bush is saying. We're spending so much time stating the obvious -- that Bush's results are either bad or non-existent -- that we're failing to do the necessary -- spell out exactly what Kerry's results have been:

expanding health-insurance coverage to millions of poor kids
defending the environment by blocking ANWR drilling
helping to uncover the Iran-Contra treason

please feel free to add more....

22. Well just LOOK at how much Bushco has achieved in just over 3 years...
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 03:42 PM by Dover
United the world against the U.S.
Ruined the U.S. economy and put it deep into debt
Gave new incentive to terrorists
Caused untold numbers of deaths of innocent people while destroying and looting their homeland.
Created corporate welfare system
Corporate profits at the expense of the environment.
Left the elderly and sick and the young behind
Destroyed the integrity of a nation
Sent our young people into harms way on a lie, then denied those soldiers the benefits they need, thus destroying trust in military service.
Made the oil and pharmaceutical, the automobile, defense, energy and security industries flush with profits, with the cost to America being all of the above.
Etc., Etc. ETC.

Now THOSE are results. Who can compete with a resume like that.

A lesser man might have quit before the book was done. He might have used the WTC as an excuse to not finish the book. But not Bush - he is a man of achievement.

30. Kerry achieved more before the age of 30 than Bush achieved
before he was sworn in as president.

Admittedly, Bush has achieved quite a bit since becoming President. But are such achievements as wiping out trillions of dollars of projected surpluses and replacing them with trillions of dollars of projected debt the kind of achievements you can run on? I think not.

33. Someone needs to remind Bush of his horrible record in Texas
Bush: "Bragged that in Texas he was signing up children for the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) as "fast as any other state."

Fact: "As governor he fought to unsuccessfully to limit access to the program. He would have limited its coverage to children with family incomes up to 150 percent of the poverty level, though federal law permitted up to 200 percent. The practical effect of Bush's efforts would have been to exclude 200,000 of the 500,000 possible enrollees." Washington Post, 10/12/00

36. Results sure do matter, you piece of shit.
Look at what YOU did, asshole:

900+ dead Americans (MANY more when the war is finally "over")

10's of THOUSANDS of Iraqi civilians and otherwise, including CHILDREN

100's of BILLIONS of dollars in cost for that war

The work of 150,000+ of our troops (including rotation) that could have gone against those who actually attacked us on 9/11

1 MILLION jobs

4 MILLION people's healthcare plans GONE

Anti-Americanism UP, support from our allies DOWN, half-trillion dollar deficits, retirement plans destroyed, oil prices through the ROOF, our civil liberties vanishing, and a divided country, brother pitted against brother.

Are you proud of YOUR "results," you goddamned piece of SHIT?
