Air America spreads wings
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/story/215082p-185175c.html

The liberal talk network Air America, heard locally on WLIB (1190 AM), is adding Mike Malloy, 10 p.m.-1 a.m. weeknights, starting Aug. 2.

1. What is this guy talking about?
Simultaneously, he says, "Our product is improving. I'd be the first to admit some of what we did the first month was bad. But now we sound pretty good."

I think they sound great!

33. Randi is the worst. Laura is a lot better than Randi...
Randi is too arrogant, she's an elitist that really gets on her high horse way too often. She is condescending to her callers. Man, she gets too me.

At first I thought Laura was "too NPR" but she is alright.

I like Unfiltered a lot more than Randi.

Obviously Al Franken and Majority Report are the best shows on there.

I really wish they dumped Randi. She is the Ann Coulter of the Left.

43. Yes, Randi is annoying sometimes ...
... but she is not the "Ann Coulter of the Left". Randi is smart, she knows her history, she knows her politics, and she's funny and passionate.

Ann Coulter is just an evil, lying bitchbag.

34. I love Morning Sedition
Sorry, but I think Morning Sedition is the funniest thing I've heard on radio in years. The knock on liberal radio before AAR started up was that it would be overly serious and boring. The mercifully only-one-hour show "Ring of Fire" on Saturdays, however well-meaning, is case in point.

Morning Sedition is irreverent, funny, and the perfect morning program. Marc Maron may be the funniest white guy in America right now (Wanda Sykes is the funniest PERSON). Count me among its fans.

46. Morning Sedition is distasteful
Having an atheist constantly mock people of faith is as distasteful as having whites mock people of color. It's ironic the show treats people with alternate life styles as more normal than straight people with faith. Morning Sedation would be better placed on Sirius Gay channel.
Morning Sedation is the only show on Air America that I no longer
listen to, granted some of the things they do are OK but too many times the show is more about Marc Maron personally mocking people that dislike some of the things he does on the show, and it appears he is only the that does this, the other two ( the woman is no longer on the show) talk reasonably and have a lot to offer. I don't know what audience Morning Sedation is after, perhaps Howard Stern, but Air America would do better replacing Marc Maron. Personally I would rather list to Randi Rhoades or the Majority Report in that time slot. Mike Malloy is a welcomed addition to Air America.

6. There is always a 'rough start' factor
They did have some problems. Some of the talent was a little green, the Chicago and L.A. fiasco, and the problems up at the top. Trashed in the media.

Growing pains are to be expected.

I haven't listened for awhile, but I may have to tune in. I heard they have gotten better.

12. Sorry to disagree....but I think
the Morning Sedition is great. I really like Mark Maren, but I adore Mark Riley. They are funny, and throw in lots of funny plugs.

I like ALL the shows. They each have their own flavor. I can't believe they finally did it. Thank God for Air America. When they first came on, I felt like someone who had gone without drinking for ages. Man, that first sip tasted good. So yes -- they will have their adjustments and setbacks.

Call me: Grateful in Portland.

18. I'm with you & I like Morning Sedition as much as O'Franken
and Ring of Fire & Marty Kaplan. Haven't listened to Unfiltered enough to have an opinion. I love the 2 Marks on the M.S. show - they are as funny as O'Franken.

I listened to Malloy when he was in Atlanta (although he was always on at odd times, of course) and it's great that he's being added!

Please, AAR, keep Morning Sedition, Majority Report, ROF, SWEIS, TAFS, and THANK YOU (and congrats) for getting the legendary Mike Malloy!!

22. I'm a Morning Sedition Fan as well...
The two Marks complement each other very well: Mark Maron is the comedian with a serious political bent, and Mark Riley is the serious journalist with a sense of humor.

But I also like Franken and Randi Rhodes, though I don't get to listen to Franken as much as I'd like to. (I don't want to put it on in my office and create a precedent for others to blare Limbaugh, Hannity, etc.)

I haven't listened to enough Unfiltered or Majority Report to have an opinion. They're on at times when I generally don't listen to radio.

26. Morning Sedition - bleah

A third rate comic hosting a show - gee, where have I seen that that before?

Oh yeah, every morning drive time show in America.

I LOVE AAR, and I LOVE Randi, and I can't wait for Malloy, and I really like Franken, and I like Unfiltered, and Majority Report is OK when they don't go on silly rants, but Maron has got to go. Mark Riley brings a nice journalistic bent to it, and thankfully Sue Ellicot has left, but this "gee aren't I funny" (no, you're not) stuff is amateur night at The Comedy Club.

Don't even get me started on the absolutely moronic "dream diary"...

Can you tell I don't like it? :)

45. 3rd rate?
It could have been worse, they could have hired a fourth rate comic like Alan Colmbes. Actually I do not think Maron is that funny either. I really like Mark Riley though. He sees the big picture and does not get bogged down in the BS. However, I can not think of anyone who could compliment Riley, at least who is currently on AAR. Actually I have been thinking that Mike Malloy and Mark Riley would work together well before the great news. Still, the improvement of everyone at AAR since the first couple of weeks has been incredible.

35. Smeagol.... my favorite Malloy caller
I can still remember the time when someone called Mike pretending to be "Smeagol/Gollum" from Lord of the Rings. "Gollum" announced he was running for president because he had a new "my precious"... The Oval Office! It was great. I laughed until my sides hurt. I recorded it and put it on the EVWorld.Com web site just for the fun of it.

Here's the URL, if you're interested.

30. I guess I'll put my two cents in.
I'm happy Malloy finally got on Air America, I read an article where he seemed king of bewildered that he wasn't one of the first hired.

I like all their shows *except* I find the O'Franken factor really annoying. It just takes Al so freaking long to get to the point, his delivery irks the hell out of me. I'd like him to be as fired up as he was when he confronted O'wrongly on C-span. And Katherine Lanpher seemed to be in the second fiddle spot, but really she's more of a radio professional than Franken, so I 'd like to see her have her own show, she'd do great. Of course, I love Al Franken in every other way. I just never realized how much of his delivery was his facial expressions and pregnant pauses, which are lost in radio.

37. Franken is fine
I was very skeptical of Franken doing radio because as you said, he takes so long to get to the point.

But having listended to his show a bunch of times, think he's terrific. Love how he dismantled John Stossel (sp?) the other day. Stossel was close to tears :-)

Randi and Majority Report are great too. Don't care for the others as much.

The Hezbollah woman on Randis show was one of the funniest moments I have heard on the radio. I loved how Randi said, "Shut up Bitch" to her.

38. I think Franken has improved tremendously since he started
Sure, he can be kind of nasal and effusive, but he has real talent. Giving each of his regulars a custom theme song was a stroke of genius, and even my ardently-opposed-to-talk-radio wife had to give it up for Pirate Day.

In a year, Franken will have developed "radio timing" and his show will be awesome.

He'll have to be awesome to compete with Mike Malloy.

31. Choosey Beggars
I don't know... I think it's great to have ANY of these people on the air as an alternative to the right-wing nutjobs. I think it's easy to lose sight of that now that we have AAR.

I like that there are various approaches to it. Randi is largely driven by callers, Franken is very structured with some caller interaction, Majority Report never seems to take callers (are they taped?) but is still pretty unstructured. I haven't listenend to the morning shows enough to comment, but I have no doubt their hearts and politics are in the right place.

Sure there's room for improvement, but compared to Boortz, Rush, Hannity, and Savage (the line-up on my local talk channel) it's night and day, heaven vs. hell.

I just wish they'd find a way to get on more stations in swing states... they have three stations in Hawaii, but none in Ohio? WTF?

39. Malloy isn't the only winner here
I understand that Majority report will be moved up an hour, and Marty Kaplan will be moved to weekends. I like Marty's show, but he has to squeeze too much into an hour. Assuming he'll get two three-hour shows like Laura Flanders, he can review the news of the week on Saturday and do something lighter on Sunday.
