Ethics Committee Extends DeLay Review
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House ethics committee will spend another 45 days reviewing allegations against House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, whose fund-raising activities and use of federal resources have been questioned, the committee announced Friday.

The extension could push a decision on whether to investigate the charges levied by Rep. Chris Bell, D-Texas, to around Labor Day, when the fall election campaigns shift into high gear.

The committee said the extension will ensure `` that we have sufficient time to obtain and consider information pertinent to the determination we are to make'' on the complaint. The extension is not a reflection on the substance of the allegations in the complaint, the committee said.

Democratic House members have demanded the investigation and plan to make DeLay's conduct a campaign issue.

1. why do they even bother
it's going to be a farce, no matter when they do it:

Watchdog groups have recommended that an outside counsel handle the investigation because four of five Republicans on the evenly divided panel have received contributions from DeLay's fund-raising operations.

7. Exactly. A Soviet farce. Imperial Bushlicker DeLay can do whatever he

wants.

If he wants to have a female congressional aide murdered in his office, or even murder her himself, he can do so anytime he wishes.

God Help us when these people finally and fully realize this.

2. When I ask around about mr. deLay, nearly everyone
says, who?

When I ask about whether anyone knows about his map making and money making skills, and why he is a genuine danger to democracy, they say what?

Why in the world do we have to read a British newspaper to find out about these things? Where is the American investigative press?

(These are, of course, rhetorical questions among us, but really needs to be asked more generally)

3. I am sure it will be "extended" right past November 2 and then quietly
dropped.

6. Didn't half of the "Ethics" Committee receive funding from this PAC they
are investigating? If this isn't a conflict of interest then there is no such thing.
