Big Names Warn of Chaos in a Davis Recall
LA Times

Former Secretary of State Warren Christopher and other leaders of California's business and labor establishment on Wednesday denounced the proposed recall of Gov. Gray Davis as a threat to the state's economy.

The group's warning of potential economic "chaos" came as the governor's political team tested options for raising doubts among voters about the campaign to unseat Davis. The Democratic governor has not settled on the main themes of the upcoming campaign, but advisors said it is clear that they would try to frame the election as a choice between stability and upheaval. ---

1. chaos indeed
If this recall effort succeds, it will be beyond chaos for California. Its good to see Warren Christopher taking a stance on this. He packs a whallop of power and has an excellent political image.

Bring em on ... bring on more like Christopher to beat off these thugs!!!

Thanks for the post!!

2. It's insane!
Here we are in California. Horrible budget crisis, where the Dem's and the Puke's can't find any common ground.

Not only do the Puke's refuse to even consider any tax increases at all in order to fund our multi-million dollar budget shortfall, but they want to saddle the California taxpayers with an additional 35-45 million dollar bill for this recall election.

Gee, now that makes sense! :puke:

3. Repubs consider
the 30 million a bargain if they can install one of their own in the Governor's mansion. Darryl Issa who couln'g ever get through the primaries has put 1.28 million of his own money into the recall campaign. How much more transparent can you get?

The Repugs are now talking about just having one candidate on the ballot. So who will it be? Issa or Schwartzenager?

THe Daily Show had a clip of Ahhnold speaking before a recall rally and he couldn't even remember the name of the CA governnor. IT would have been funny if it weren't so damn pathetic.

5. one candidate? Ha ha!
When it only costs $1600 to be listed as a candidate on the recall ballot, you can give ballot listings as birthday presents.

I wouldn't be suprised if there aren't hundreds of candidates on the ballot, including "Arnold Schwartz", "Arnold Swegger", ... etc.

Total...complete...chaos.

Maybe that'll be what it takes for the CA supreme court to take notice and toss the whole thing out.

6. That would be funny
Maybe I should stand out in front of Safeway and get the 10,000 sigs needed to go on the ballot. I've never been elected to anything other than a PTA position but neither has Ahhnold.

THis will be chaos. I wonder what needs to happen to have the CA SUpreme Court take a look at this. Invalid signatures comes to mind. I am beginning to believe that this will end up being a lot messier than just letting Davis complete his term - even for the Repugs who just don't want to wait 4 years for another chance at him.

8. Only about 30 sigs needed if you pay $1600
There could literally be 100 candidates.

9. that's one petition I'll sign!
I still think that Davis should resign. If he really cares about the state, he'll step down and make this all go away.

I realize that he didn't start it but if he does step down, he'll show that he's the bigger person. Sounds good, doesn't it?

15. Great idea!!

I wouldn't be suprised if there aren't hundreds of candidates on the ballot, including "Arnold Schwartz", "Arnold Swegger", ... etc.

Total...complete...chaos.

If Arnold decides to run, get 1 or 2 names on the ballot that are spelled ever so slightly different.

Same for Issa.

No doubt, a significant chunk of people will vote for the misspelled candidates.

Split their possible vote tallies....

NAH!!!!!

a bit _too_ "Rovian"... but an entertaining thought

11. If they win the recall, they win CA for the Republicans in 2004.
This is what it's all about. It began with the sleaze concerning the energy crisis...anything to get the Dems out in CA.

7. What's There To Stop Issa From Being Recalled?
If he's installed as the new governor? Hell, you could have a new governor every damn year with this nonsense.

CA Democrats really are starting to piss me off. Why do we keep doing this? Why do we keep falling into Republican traps? Yes, Davis sucks, but he's your governor for the time being. The thing to do is keep stability in place work on getting a better governor four years from now.

I'm sure that many CA Democrats signed those petitions thinking that they'll get a more progressive governor. Bullshit! You're going to get a facist Republican governor who will cheat to see that Bush wins CA in 2004.

10. California has become Florida West if this works.
Sniff. I weep for my state. (Born there. Redding.)

As for this:

That was Ahhnolds attempt to make a joke -

" I can't RECALL the name of our govenor - but I know you will help me "

So witty

Did you see the clip at the end? About how he 'comes' all day
long? What a weinie. What a total idiotic fat head. If he
becomes governor of California I will slash my wrists. I would
just bury myself in the back yard.
