First Lady Hails Botswana AIDS Clinic
First Lady Hails Botswana AIDS Clinic

GABORONE, Botswana -- First lady Laura Bush, sitting between two 9 year olds with HIV, said Thursday she hoped state-of-the-art pediatric AIDS clinics run by an American medical school showcased her country's compassion for AIDS-ravaged Africa.

Mrs. Bush, accompanying President Bush on his first presidential tour of Africa, met with HIV-positive children as she visited a center where they and their parents are treated, counseled and given free AIDS drugs by U.S. drug companies.

The U.S. aid is "showing people here what the real face of America is like, the compassion that Americans have for the people here who are suffering with AIDS," she said.

According to Pickles, the suffering children of the world "are really surrounded by love".

Also news to me, at least one of the twins is in Africa.

2. Isn't it wonderful how pickles loves kids??
Outside of that 17 year old kid she murdered with her car, i don't think she would ever harm a child.

4. Given the Botswana has a 40% seropositivity rate . . .
I just can't find the words to express just how useless, pointless and morally offensive this politically ephemeral dingleberry of a photo-op is.

So Laura Bush, in a country where about half of the entire population is going to die in an epidemic the West has been stolidly paying lip service to for 10 years, praises a clinic as proof of Americans' compassionate nature.

You see, it's not really about 9-year-old kids with HIV. It's not about a demographic catastrophe now well in progress. No, it's all about shiny happy PR for America.

Nauseating. Absolutely nauseating.

5. If it's from * it's *shit

Palast said that the AIDS initiative is a scam to prevent Africans from getting low cost HIV drugs. The money, he said is a LOAN and that it can ONLY be used to buy drugs from American drug companies.

Also, I know I’ve heard it stated that the money cannot go to any clinic/organization that promotes abortion in any way. That pretty much knocks out the family-planning clinics, the very organizations that have existing infrastructure in place to serve these people.
