Another American soldier killed, one injured
Just heard on CBS Radio News, at 5:00 a.m., EST.

Said it was just announced that a soldier was killed and one was injured, near Tikrit. (Think they said it was a roadside bomb.)

1. No mention on CNN
They just completed their run-down of "latest news" items and this was not mentioned. Either they don't know it yet, they're sitting on it, or someone's got a problem. Hmm...

2. It may be possible that this is the same story
although CBS did say the 5:00 am story was new.

Would you please notice the order in which the death of the American soldier was placed in this story? I simply can't believe it. Any lower in the story, it would show up in the Classified Section.

(snip) Raids net family loyal to regime; soldier killed in convoy attack

By D'ARCY DORAN, Associated Press
(Published Tuesday, August 12, 2003, 8:53 PM)

TIKRIT, Iraq (AP) - American soldiers rounded up 14 members of a family said to be a pillar of support for Saddam Hussein in raids Tuesday, including a Republican Guard officer and one of the deposed dictator's bodyguards.

West of Baghdad, guerrillas attacked an American convoy with three roadside bombs, killing one U.S. soldier and wounding two. But the commander of American forces told The Associated Press the stakes are too high to let casualties deter the mission of pacifying Iraq.

"Every American needs to believe this: that if we fail here in this environment, the next battlefield will be the streets of America," Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez said. "Every soldier ... understands the impact to America and to the global war on terrorism of his duty here."

On the outskirts of Tikrit, Saddam's hometown, U.S. soldiers captured 14 men in a three-hour operation. All were members of the same family, which was a key supporter of Saddam's regime, said Lt. Col. Steve Russell. (snip/...)

4. That's it, no doubt!
Also in your article:

(snip) A U.S. soldier was killed while riding in a Humvee in Ramadi Tuesday, a site of frequent attacks on American troops 60 miles west of Baghdad. A U.S. military spokesman said the convoy was hit by three roadside bombs wired to explode in succession. Two other soldiers were wounded.

Another American soldier was found dead in his bunk Tuesday morning at a base in Ramadi. In Mosul, in the far north of the country, the U.S. military reported a soldier died when his Humvee collided with a taxi. (snip/)

6. Oh sweet babbling Jesus what a bad acid flashback this is
This quote makes me doubt my sanity:

"Every American needs to believe this: that if we fail here in this environment, the next battlefield will be the streets of America," Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez said. "Every soldier ... understands the impact to America and to the global war on terrorism of his duty here."

Subsitute Communism for Terrorism, and it's 1967 Viet Nam. They warned me about the brown acid but did I listen noooooo. Now shit like this is happening all the time. Oh it's real? That's even worse

7. Same reaction here
Don't recall being attacked by Vietnam since we left that country. Hey, maybe if we leave Iraq, they'll stop attacking us too.

9. 120 since 01 may
It's up on yahoo now, funny thing about the numbers they seem to be running backwards. I guess it's normal in this Orwellian nightmare. They reort that 59 have been killed since 01 may, we passed that number long ago, hell they were using that number days ago, and we still don't know about the big attack from the other night.

13. Wasting your time
reporting the deaths of GI's. Other than those here at DU and the families of the GI's killed really give a fuck. How else can you explain the total lack of outrage on the part of the wonderful sheeple who inhabit this wonderful country? Corp media sucks but they eventually get around to reporting on these deaths.

14. Lt. Gen. Sanchez' comment beyond ridiculous. What has GOP promised him?
"The next battlefield will be on the streets of America"!?!?!?

How would/could that happen? Is that where the tattered remnants of the Baathist party send their (non-existant) weapons of mass destruction over via their (non-existant) delivery systems? No, he couldn't have meant that - because battles in the streets means Iraqi militants/soldiers parachuting in from (non-existant) Iraqi air force planes or landing on our shores from (non-existant)Iraqi navy boats - yes, invading YOUR town, YOUR city - let's all burst into song from The Music Man:

Well, we got trouble,
Right here in River City.

Actually, Iraqis will be too occupied either dying from exposure to depleted uranium or taking care of their family members dying from it, or simply trying to keep their families alive, to head over here.
