33. If everyone gets beheaded...
Is the last one with a head the new leader? Or, do we then just try and byu off the torsos, and get oil from them?

Behead the beheaders... reminds me of the line "Smite me oh mighty Smiter!" in Bruce Almighty...

Does anyone really expect progress of any kind in a social climate where "revenge beheadings" are acceptable retribution?

19. Or "Shock and Awe" acceptable retribution?
Please. We're little better. Maybe lighter and harder to pin down, but we did drop a helluva lotta bombs on a people 03/03-06/04, with a helluva lotta cheering in sports bars and backyard bar-b-cues. Let's drop the self-righteousness. Bigger scale and more distance does not civilize murder. I wonder how many of those caught in Shock and Awe had their heads blown off by bombs?

24. You got it!
This is their "shock and awe". We have already paid off 19,000 people in Iraq for wrongfull deaths. The count was 2 months ago. How many now?
Consider this: If we invade Iraq, are we not responsible for everything that happened because we did? I have to wonder.

28. There are two sides to that.
On one hand, the beheadings in Afghanistan are simple, straightforward actions. They are done by people with a full capacity to appreciate the effects of their actions. Apply blade to neck. Sever head. Kill.

There are those in our government who are no better. I find Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz and, of course, Rummy himself to be a band of two bit murderers and thugs that were handed the keys to the ultimate death machine. So they are no better, because they damn sure do understand the ramifications of dropping high powered explosives on innocent civilians, and don't seem to feel the least bit bad about it.

The American citizenry, on the other hand, must at least be placated with the notion that we somehow only manage to bomb evil terrorists and no one else. I don't think the general population of America would stand for it if Bush came out during a press conference. . . wait, that's ridiculous, let me start over.

I don't think the general population of America would stand for it if Bush sent one of his PR people out during a press conferece (better!) and announced that we're going to incinerate 3000 impovershed Afghanistan bystanders just to "even the score". I think the citizenry would at least demand to be convinced that said bystanders were "evil" first.

You know. . . I was trying to draw a distinction here, but I'm not sure that I have drawn the one I was looking for.

31. I dunno
I tend to think that the most cynical aspects of any regime of power are on full display, and that people, really, when it comes down to it, know exactly what's going on. People know that shock and awe doesn't magically kill "bad guys" and spare the little children. They know it. They may block it out themselves, but they know it, and - I think - thewy even cheer for it. Take that, mutherfuckers. They love it. Blow up a few innocent towelheads? They fucking deserve it after what they did to us! Have you forgotten, as the song goes. They cheer that death, and the veil of intention is a very fucking thin one, and transparent as all git out. People who cheered shock and awe knew damn well what was happening, and I see less and less distinction between these folks and the man who cuts off a hostages head. Both have their beefs, both like the bang, both get off on it, and both will have their revenge. If anything, the cold killer is a better person for at least having the fortitude to own the blood he spills. The cowards in their thousand American sportsbars talking their cowardly talk of vengeance and cheering the fireballs are the weakest kinds of people - too weak to even get their hands dirty and own their own multitude of murder.

35. Courage and Self Delusion
So I guess the question is, which is better?

To be an honest, cold blooded killer?

Or to be a weak-willed, self delusional killer?

Is hypocracy a worse sin than fatal sadism?

36. The point being
That the hypocrite is also a fatal sadist, to use your terms. The self-delusional killer is no less a killer. So it is difficult to compare the two. The hypocritically clean-handed Americans are always killers PLUS hypocrites. We always have an extra characteristic added on to our sadism.

41. Hypocricy
Perhaps, then, the question is whether or not the American citizenry woudl still support the war effort if they were not allowed their whitewashed understanding of the war. Would the American people still support the war in Iraq if they had the facts rammed down their throats?

But alas only a few care, a lot of people on this board are really upset about the be-headings.

I guess when there is No Geneva Convention---per THE CHIMPANZEE -----with no rules there is no restraint.

12. They'd be just as dead if they shot them.
Or gave them a lethal injection. Or dropped napalm on them.

Beheading might be gross, but it's no worse than dying any other way.

14. No, if done cleanly it's probably less painful.
But the grossness is good news for someone, hmmmm, who could that be? Maybe the Corporate Media who lives and dies by sensationalism? Or how about Smirkaholic and friends? Now they can extend their war in Afghanistan because "look! They're barbaric!"

25. "We have to work the dark side." - Dick 'Halliburton' Cheney
~snip~

Cheney warned the US was prepared to use every means possible to nail the prime suspect for Tuesday's massacres - even if it meant forging alliances with those who lived in the "shadows".

He said: "We have to work the dark side. We need to have some very unsavoury characters on the payroll. It's a mean, nasty and dangerous business. But we have to operate in that arena."

~snip~

Interviewed on NBC, Cheney - who warned the forthcoming struggle would take "several years" - was asked: "You wouldn't mind having his (bin Laden's) head on a platter?"

The vice president replied: "I would take it today!"

He added: "What we are going to do is aggressively go after bin Laden and all his associates. I have no doubt that he and his organisation played a significant role.

29. Actually this is not so bad -- reminds us that War isn't clean
I'm so sick of video-game war, graphics, maps, simulations, etc.

People need to see that war is violence and blood, whether dropping a bomb from 30,000 feet or holding a knife to someone's head. To a person on the ground where the bombs hit, the US is just as bad.

42. Network news drops the ball again.
Didn't see one word about the Afghan beheadings this morning on CNN, NBC, or ABC. Unlike me, my wife can stomach watching 15 minutes of FOX news without vomiting, and she didn't see anything on fair and balanced.

Where is everyone? Did anyone besides Reuters carry this? Retaliatory beheadings sound like major news to me. Seems like everyone else in the Corporate Media wants to continue to play ostrich politics. Oh well, what else is new?
